Rick Stroud of the Tampa Bay Times reports that Byron Leftwich is "expected" to remove himself from consideration for the Jaguars head coaching job soon.
The saga continues. The Jaguars are clearly balking at getting rid of GM Trent Baalke, and trying to form some sort of coalition in which he can stay. On a related note, it's February 3 and they don't have a head coach yet. Doug Pederson and Rich Bisaccia remain candidates for the position, per Stroud.

The Jags started their HC search a week before all other teams, and still haven't found their guy. It is apparent that Leftwich was offered the job, but he said no because of Baalke. Byron would have increased the black coaches to 2, but I have a hard time blaming him for not taking a job in the midst of a dumpster fire (for those who said the Jags HC was a desirable landing spot, can we have a chat about that?).
But seriously, what did people think the Rooney rule would do?
I have thought the same thing - forcing the interviews encourages sham ones. The Giants were set on Daboll once they made Schonen their GM, so any other interviews they had would just be going through the motions, no matter the skin color.
Now, let's see if Flores gets the Houston job!
