It's tank bowl time! Two pathetic teams face off in a pointless matchup for draft position. This will also likely mark Nagy's and Zimmer's last games as head coach for both teams. Let's see how the Bears stack up:
Injury Report
Vikings
NT Pierce - Doubtful
CB Boyd - Questionable
G Davis - Questionable
CB Alexander - Questionable
-COVID-
S Bynum
LB Kendricks
TE Herndon
CB Hand
Bears
DE Hicks - Out
OLB Quinn - Questionable
NT Goldman - Questionable
CB Shelley - Questionable
-COVID-
QB Fields
Line: MIN -5.5, 77% bets on Vikings
* My Thoughts *
QB - Andy Dalton is past his prime, but Nagy has still been able to coach him to play the worst football in his career so far. Even when Fields was healthy, Nagy was improperly using him. The offensive coaching under this regime is a clownshow.
RB - Montgomery is a solid player, but the run blocking has been bad more often than not. He's capable of beating up on our poor run defense. Herbert looked fantastic, but they've stopped using him.
WR/TE - This unit is not bad on paper, but in practice, the passing game has been a joke. Mooney is having a solid sophomore year but that's about it. Robinson has been banged up and just hasn't had any chemistry with Fields or Dalton. Byrd is a veteran backup who is not terrible. Kmet is having a pretty good year 2 for a TE, but in a better passing game he could be having a real breakout. Graham only gets used in the redzone and is a decent weapon there, but is he really worth $8M a year for that small role?!
OL - This unit has some nice pieces here, but on the whole they've been a poor OL. Peters is still rumbling at age 39 and is still ahead of 2nd rounder Teven Jenkins. Meanwhile, 5th round rookie Larry Borom is handling RT over Ifedi (and it's not like he's playing well). Whitehair and Daniels are two competent IOL who will be getting new contracts soon, if not in Chicago. Mustipher has the look of a backup center.
DL - With Hicks out, the Vikings should be able to run on these guys. Nichols is having a step-back year and Goldman has been awful. Edwards Jr is a nice pass rusher, and Blackson is a proven poor player.
LB/ED - Robert Quinn set the Bears all-time sack record, and he could be motivated to bump it up some more. Gipson has been broken out as a shockingly good pass rusher, one that the Vikings should have taken in the 5th round in 2020. Roquan Smith has been better than his PFF ratings suggest, but Ogletree has been anemic.
DB - This unit had nothing left due to COVID 3 weeks ago, yet they played a whale of a game. Rookie CB Graham Jr. outplayed every CB on the Vikings' roster and earned himself a full-time roster spot, but he's been playing behind their usual starters. Johnson has been a capable starter, while Burns is having a bounce-back year after going missing for a few years. Vildor is one of the NFL's worst slot CBs. Jackson and Gipson are having down years. Jackson is still in the prime of his career and should be OK, but Gipson might be cooked.
Prediction: Vikings 28, Bears 14
Can we finally have a blowout? The Bears suck and everyone knows Nagy is going to get canned. He's been a fantastic repellant to good offense - the Bears have competent offensive players, but they are continually misused and bungled to hell and back. The Vikings showed a lot of quit last week too, but now that Kirk is playing against a bad defense at home in a noon game, I could see him have a great statistical game and bring home a victory that will worsen our draft position.
Any thoughts?
