But yes, I can think of plenty of times where we've all been divided. We go through it every single regime. People were against firing Childress and Frazier. People were against moving on from TJack and Ponder, we didn't give them enough time, yada yada yada. And hey look, everyone got over all that. I'll never understand the resistance to change, especially when the status quo isn't working.

It isn't much different of a fanbase than it was 40 years ago. You heard the same sort of gripes on talk radio which was the only social media at the time. You just couldn't get on the air and start swearing or launching attacks on other fans. That stuff really has nothing to do with being a fan and everything to do with the anonymous quality of the internet and it's hardly limited to sports fandom.

And radio hosts were gatekeepers, just like newspapers used to be gatekeepers. Now there aren't any. The unleashing of the internet is both a boon in terms of available information, and a curse in the sense that people's unconscious selves are unleashed in many ways and given unlimited quantities of information without filters, which leads to lots of misinformation being believed and then gotten angry about, etc.

Yeah and take a look at those traditional "gatekeepers" now and the propaganda machines they've become. Makes you wonder what kind of nonsense was shoved down our throats before the average Joe could jump on a message board and share thoughts/ideas in real time with others.

When did people learn to just trust these gatekeepers and swallow everything they say anyway? It's disturbing. The real issue here is the lack of critical thinking. I know the indoctrination centers known as public school, universities, churches, political cults, social media conglomerate, etc aren't teaching anyone to think critically because they're all competing against each other in a numbers game. Whoever can collect the most useful idiots has all the power. "fact checkers" have even become propaganda machines. Only online. A vast majority of my interactions with other fans in real life have been great, both people I know well and strangers. I've said this before, but it's important to remember the online segment of the fanbase represents only a small fraction of the overall fanbase.

I also think that the online negativity is self feeding. If a site has too much content that requires adds no value, no insight and exists only makes the internet and Vikings fandom worse, people stop signing on to that site. I recently stopped visiting a different site all together because of this. After not signing on there for a few days, I went back and read what I missed, only to find that 70-80% of it was sh*t that nobody would ever find any value in reading. As I read, I saw very little content from the "good" posters - they had mostly already left, which was why the garbage to non-garbage ratio had gotten unreadably high.

That's true. Most people say stuff on social media they would get punched in the face for in real life... Twitter is the worst for that

Truth. Kirk is Childs play compared to the scale of the Walker trade.

When I lived in Minnesota it was just talking face to face with other fans and sometimes it got heated. I remember two guys almost coming to blows over Wade Wilson vs Tommy Kramer. When I moved to Florida it was before the internet was a thing and you really had to work for every bit of Viking news. Hours of staring at the crawl at the bottom of ESPN. Waiting for my weekly mailing of the Sunday Mpls Star/Trib and Viking Update. I think less info and more work put in to get it made me more dedicated to good news and not even trying to find negative news. Whenever something big happened call one of my brothers in Minny who had total access to local news and sports radio talk. More info doesn't always make it better but more informed for what that's worth.
In truth the most camaraderie I ever felt after leaving Minnesota was those Sundays at the sports bar with the regular gang exchanging info from the week. Internet forum friends are great and the game thread beats watching alone. I can't high five my tablet though.

The Vikings were fooling themselves thinking they were a QB away from winning a SB after 2017. People love to bash Kirk, but they're really more pissed at his contract. The Vikings were right to move on from Keenum. The stars were aligned for the 2017 season and Keenum played well, but he was never a viable long term option. I think he's on his 3rd or 4th team since being let go?
