The Smith signing now makes #12 a weird place to be, IMO. Gardner will likely be gone. It doesn't make sense to go Edge when that player will be part-time.
Stingley's coach at LSU is on the staff now, IIRC. If he is All In on the kid and convinces Ed, Kevin and Kwesi that he's not the risk many feel he is I'd be OK with it. Provided his medicals are good.
I'm not picking a Linebacker who would rotate behind Kendricks or Hicks. Get someone to push Surratt and Dye or could succeed Hicks either later in the Draft or next year.
No Safety outside of Hamilton is worth the pick. The O-Linemen are all Tackles that mostly project as Tackles. Cross maybe, if he is there.
So now you're looking at the second group of CBs that are clearly not in the same class as Gardner and possibly Stingley. Or WRs. Also not a huge need and is also deep.
The best scenario now is either QB (Pickett or Willis are the only 2 to consider, if either actually makes it that far), trading up to get Gardner, which I'm not a fan of since Rick already squandered the 4th Round pick, or trading back and then drafting a CB.
Personally, I'm in favor of the trade down. This is a much, much deeper Draft this year for the very reason it was so shallow last year. Give me more picks to address CB, Safety depth, WR depth, LB depth, another NT, Center, a more natural 3-4 DE and yes, Edge. Need more competition for Jones, Robinson, and Wonnum.
Very exciting that Smith is coming on board but now definitely changes the Vikings Board.
