Yeah it's not doom and gloom if you have the right coaches, and that ain't Zimmer and co. This regime will never develop Mond into anything, they don't know how. I don't even think Zimmer is capable of developing defensive players anymore. Every defensive player we've had played exactly at their talent level, if not worse. I mean how is Mac Alexander the worst graded CB in the league? Should it even be possible for a guy known as the CB whisperer to have a DB that bad? Shouldn't Zimmers experience be able to mask Alexander's shortcomings and get him in a better position to succeed? It's mind boggling how many bad CB's we've had in recent years. That's not bad luck, that's a trend. I would think Zimmer has had some say in what CB's he's wanted, so is he just that bad at identifying talent too?
Some people get promoted to management and thrive, but just as many hate it and wish they could go back to their old "hands on" role. Problem is, their old job isn't open any more, they have to take a pay cut to go back, and - worst of all - they have been out of that role for a few years and they lost some skills. Maybe the whole job or game has changed and they were focused on management instead of their former area of specialty.
Zimmer isn't the same "CB whisperer" he was 8 years ago. Other coaches fail as HC in just a year or so and can go back to being a coordinator, but Zimmer has been out of it a long time now.
