When has Kirk ever done anything contract wise that doesn't benefit Kirk?

He was asked to restructure his current deal at the beginning of 2020 and he refused, saying something like "I haven't played a single down on that contract yet, so why should I change it" He wouldn't have lost anything monetery wise, but rather than help the team out he took a "me first" attitude and said screw you.

So I don't see why he would agree this time to do something that he doesn't benefit from, especially when the Vikings are effectively sending him the message that he's done as a Viking. In fact I'd even go so far as to say it wouldn't surprise me one bit if he requested a trade rather than agree to rework the contract.

I could be wrong, but that's just how I see it, and his selfishness really irks me.

Yes I did, but you are forgetting that there were 0 guarantees the Mahomes would be available in the draft for KC with where they were drafting.  In fact, it took multiple QB needy teams passing on him, for him to get to KC.  The Chiefs ended up with Mahomes because they didn't stupidly lock themselves into a contract with a QB who had proven throughout his long career he wasn't good enough.  They likely aren't as willing to give up 2 1sts for Mahomes if they are locked into Smith for 3 more seasons.  

Or if you don't you don't extend him, because he isn't good enough and will cost too much.

Yup I read about that recently. You are correct. There is absolutely no reason to extend cousins at this point unless they want him to be their qb into the future. And any gm tying his team to a qb of cousins level to the money/cap hit he will cost Isn’t trying to win a sb.
