If I was a Wilf they would all be gone but thats not the question. Rick is tricky. My biggest complaint about the guy is his panic trades. The yannick trade was the worst and honestly shouldve been fired for that. I think the biggest problem is developing these guys and scheme. Ill laugh in your face if you think Zim and Patterson have no say, especially on the defensive side. He has hand picked this defense since 2015 and it had some good years dont get me wrong but now we are just chasing the Blair walsh missed kick and the beating in Philly. Its over with time to move on and start over. The sooner we do so the closer chance we actually have to possibly getting it right. I mean last offseason was the final chance. You bring in Xavier Woods, Sheldon Richardson, Tomlinson, Peterson..Dont get me wrong they fooled me once again I thought they would be a top 10 unit possibly 5 but that clearly isnt the case. Yeah no hunter hurts but regardless its time to move on. All those 1 year contracts wont be here not year and then your looking at the depth guys who are playing now as starters. Its over with need to move on with new eyes and direction to make the tough decisions about letting guys go who have been here for a while.

Mike has to go but really Rick should as well. Remove all road blocks to rebuilding. Mike going and Rick staying means only one of those in the mindset of tweaking is enough and our window is still open will still be here.
My order of preference or oder of dismissal.
1st Mike
2nd Rick
3rd Kirk extend to make it work but keep their eyes open. Let the new coach find his guy for 2023 and beyond.

If being a Viking fan was easy ~ everyone would do it.

I don't think he was serious. That's not the point, though. There is a line here, and some people have crossed it recently. Clean it up. That's all I meant. This isn't brain surgery.

I feel awful for Mike Zimmer, I think he's a really good coach.He made this team relevant again. Granted maybe this roster is not congruent to his coaching style but I remember the time when we could never win a road game, I remember completely frustratingly being awful on third down, I remember the secondary of the '90s and even into the early 2000s.

Mike Zimmer made this franchise a team that people see on their schedule and say oh that's going to be a tough game...

As Mike Zimmer walks out the door I don't look back in anger. We never reached the ultimate goal but I appreciate the Mike Zimmer era and for the rest of my life we'll think fondly of these years. I really wonder what 2015 would have brought If we didn't shank that field goal. You know we always talk about 2017 and 2019 or whatever but... I don't know... I think we dismiss the '15 team.

I hold no ill will towards Mike Zimmer and if he chooses to continue to coach I will 100% guarantee you right here whatever team he ends up with he will restore to respectability.

Getting back on track:

Rick-Fire. He's the only GM in the League incapable of finding Starters on the O-Line in the middle Rounds (Oli Udoh is not a Starter, folks, he's a backup RT playing out of position and a penalty machine that makes Todd Steussi look like the cleanest Guard ever).

His constant trade downs to the lower Rounds has produced very little despite having more of them than any GM in the League during the same time frame. Failed strategy and Strike 2

He extended Kirk with that inexplicable 45 Million guaranteed Contract for next year. That forces either an extension where Cousins has literally all the leverage, or a trade where Teams, knowing Minnesota can't realistically afford that 45m, will have leverage to demand the Vikings pick up some of his salary, while also being on the hook for his $10 bonus.

Strategically speaking that was plain dumb. Strike 3. You're out.

Zimmer is toast. No need to cover that.

I'd extend Kirk on a Team-friendly deal. He has shown zero inclination whatsoever that he'll take that. And why should he? Spielman foolishly gave him all the leverage. He also doesn't have a supermodel wife that makes more than him ala Brady. And he's become addicted to fully guaranteed contracts.

The likeliest outcome is if Rick and Zimmer go so does Cousins unless the trade offers are like 3rd Round pick plus picking up half his salary. The new GM shouldn't get bent over because Rick backed him into a corner. Ride it out one more year with Kirk and then cut bait.

Again, I'm assuming Cousins won't take a team-friendly deal. If he would that's a different story.
