The Vikings weren't as bad in '87 as everyone seems to think or remember. That was the strike year when the NFL played with scabs for 3 games. Our scabs went 0-3, because why not? That means our normal roster went 8-4.

The playoff seeds end up being the same, but based on those records, the Vikings look a bit better than the 8-7 record everyone remembers. The Vikings lost at home in the season finale to the Redskins in OT, so we were that close to being 9-3. Still impressive what they did against the Saints (44-10) and 49ers (36-24) in the playoffs. Bill Walsh said it was his worst game as a coach. I imagine Montana felt the same way xD. Steve Young came in and made the score closer than it was.

AC had just laid 227 yards on the 49ers which was an amazing performance at the time. Without a doubt the most impressive game for a WR until Moss took the field.

That was a good team. Great defense

With this situation coming to pass at the end of the SF game after they missed a FG to put them up by 2 scores, anyone want to update their thoughts on how they feel with nearly 2 min left on the clock with the ball in Kirk's hands?

It's never a good idea to post thoughts directly after the game (especially a loss, and yet another 1-score loss, as well), but sometimes the first reaction is the correct one....

The non PI call was a big miss by the refs. He did miss Jefferson high on the last one though

I cannot for the life of me understand why with the ball inside the 10 that they tried to run the ball up the gut twice in a row when it hasn’t been effective all year.

Then on 3rd down when it’s obvious we are going to pass we try play action which is fooling nobody.

Do play action on first down and throw the football past that white stripe.

We literally have a DC role playing as a HC and it's the main reason we can't win close games, followed by a QB who needs an exorcist or a proctologist.

It became pretty clear early in the season some fans were going to blame the play calling and coaches for every loss, and say we won inspite of the play calling coaches if we won.

A lot of "realistic" fans who think this team has the talent to be more than a 7th seed one and done playoff team, but is being held back by the coach. Laughable.

Being aggressive isn’t running the ball twice and then passing on 3rd and goal.

Being aggressive is actually throwing passes into the end zone once you get into at least the red zone. Go for 7 not play for 3. At least that’s how I personally feel.

I do think they are doing a better job of airing it out between the 20’s but I would definitely start giving JJ more chances in the end zone earlier in than 3rd or 4th down.

You seem to have not been paying attention.

The "realistic" fans are the ones that realised this team was busted after 2018 and needs a complete rebuild.

What you describe above is the delusional "we're going to have a top 10 defense" fans who think this team has the talent and coaching to get to an NFCCG, especially after all those "hand picked" free agents Zimmer brought in.

The talent on defense and the o-line is the problem.

Our Defensive line sucks.
Our Offensive line is still well below average.

Spielman lands a JJ once every 5-10 years and people think he's a genius because they have JJ on their fantasy football team.

The Vikings had very little cap space and 5 starting spots to fill on the D. "Hand picked" aren't the right words, "desperately signed whoever we could afford" are.
