What They're Saying:
Vikings are going to run the ball
Vikings have good WRs in Thielen and Jefferson
But seen enough Vikings games this year that Zimmer will coach the game so the opponent comes back. The Vikings are Charger-esque this year - thats not a good thing
Chargers need to figure out the run defense though -- they have to do something - bring in Geno Atkins or Kawann Short for a week - anything. Because teams are moving the chains too easily. Granted, Cousins cannot run like Hurts did.
But you can fix those problems feeling better after a W than an L thats for sure!

Good team that has problems like us. Cant close games. We know what thats like but we have won most those this year.
Could just be a shootout. We can win this.

Luckily the Vikings don’t have AP this time.
I don't even want to think about this game.... Elite running back and WR. Cook and Jefferson. We won't be able to afford to load up on the run like we had to today. We will have to respect their passing. I just hope we get Asante and MD back.
Common opponents the two teams played; Browns, Cowboys, and Ravens.
The one team who the Chargers got blown out by, Baltimore, Vikings did much better competing with. Herbert and the rest of the team are really going to have to perform.
Staley has seen the Vikings when he was in the NFC North with the Bears. He knows Minnesota. He'll come up with something in his gameplan.

Herbert continues to have an unprecedented start to his NFL career as a QB.
We will need him to trend upward some more.
Our victories will come by outscoring opponents, so this is Herb vs Cousins in basic form.
Defensive deficiencies will be dealt with via improved health + off season personnel adjustments designed for StaleyD.

The Vikings wiped the floor with the Chargers two years ago at the Soccer Stadium, 39-10. The Bolts turned it over 7 times. None of the players who turned it over are on the team now. Rivers, 3 INTs and a fumble on a strip sack that was returned for a TD. Gordon coughed it up twice. Hunter Henry fumbled once. The Chargers' special teams also go into the act, allowing the Vikes to block a punt deep in Chargers' territory. Mike Williams had a good day though, making some clutch catches, including one deep shot, and scoring on a jump ball from Rivers - the only TD for the Chargers that day.. Melvin Ingram intercepted a screen pass. But the highlights for the Chargers were few. It was a miserable game.
Vikings are much better than their record. Cook was injured the first 5-6 games, including against the Browns and he is healthy now. Two great Wrs. Cousins is a competent QB. This is not going to be an easy game. I know Staley says it takes a lot of 5 yard runs to score a TD, but it is demoralizing to watch teams just run the ball right down the field, game after game. Vikings are a much better Eagles type team. And we struggled with the Eagles.
The Vikings are like many Chargers teams of yesteryear this year. They have found ways to lose games. But that doesn't mean they are not a team that you can overlook. Like said, good running game, two very good WRs and a good QB.
I would hope Telesco and Staley kind of figure out how to improve the run defense - or at least try. One thing, Cousins won't hurt you running the ball like Hurts did. So that makes 3rd downs a bit easier.

Lamar Jackson caught fire and Baltimore won late in overtime. The Ravens ultimately set a franchise record with 36 first downs, putting up an even 500 yards in the process -- the highest total yielded by the Vikings this season. Minnesota excels at snatching defeat from the jaws of victory. You wonder how many more of these kinds of losses Mike Zimmer can afford ...
My guess, not many this year. I think he is a good coach but I hope he gets another L this sunday thats for damn sure!
Chargers run defense vs the opponent RBs last two games. 64/246 for 3.8avg per carry, long of 18yd.
If the Offense executes a clean game vs Vikings, it's a Chargers win for sure.

With Minnesota's weapons, our D better tackle much better
I think our run D improved just enough in the second half against the Eagles
maybe im giving Staley too much credit, but I think he's purposely giving opposing offenses a slightly false sense of security on the ground.
kinda like when a boxer lulls his opponent to sleep playing possum
on offense, we need to use their aggression on defense against them.
me thinks Ekeler will have a big game catching screens on the left side
Oh and can we finally stop blaming Herbert for throwing hard?
if the ball zips past BOTH of Allen's hands on his first target, that's still an Allen problem. I think Allen would be the first to say the same.

I wonder if we are just going to have to accept the run defense? Staley's philosophy is to stop the pass and stop ALL explosive plays (both pass and run). You have to give something up to do that. So maybe this is how it is always going to be? I also think that if the Chargers could get up on teams, it would make this defense more effective. Seems predicated on playing with a lead?
By the way, Staley has already had a profound impact on the NFL this season. So many coaches going for it on 4th down now.

Making this game a shootout would be ideal.
We need to do everything possible to get an early lead. If we don’t, they will control the clock, keep Herbo off the field, and run it down our throats.
If I were Staley, I’d always take the ball first.
The key is to put immediate pressure on opponents by scoring first and making them respond. If we can get up by 2 scores, it forces them to throw, which is the strength of our defense.

When Minnesota figures out how to lose this next game in the last minute,
the "Anthony Lynn Baton-of-Loserness" will be officially passed from the Chargers to the Vikings.
The media will eat it up.
