Im not sure why people cant grasp the idea that ppl who may want Kirk gone has nothing to do with them thinking he is bad. Yes there are obviously some extreme people who hate on Kirk way more than he deserves. But for the rational people and those who have no bias to a player, the idea to move Kirk relates directly to his contract and the state of the team. You have teams like Broncos and Browns who were us in 2017 that are perfect fits for Kirk and there window. Yes good QBs dont grow on trees, and a better coaching staff will help, but if we keep going into the year like this we will keep having seasons like the last two regardless of who is coaching. The talent just isnt there on the defensive side and that is with a defensive coach who is probably playing them over their abilities. Yes the concern over Jefferson is really the only thing you have to worry about, but if he cant get on the same page with the new GM and coach and see the vision that is on him. No one man is greater than the team and going to win you a super bowl by themselves especially a WR. Maybe a rough year next year but that can quickly turnaround in 2023.
The contract part is what seems the strangest. A lot of the numbers come from when a contract is signed and what other QBs come up for renewal. Right now for next year there are 10 or so QBs around or above his salary. So that’s essentially the top 30% in the league. A few in that group will get raises and a few below that will get new contracts that eclipse it.
So by the end of next year he could be in the company of probably 15 QBs with a salary in his range. Cap hit is a product of the contract structure and the money is spent whether it counts next year, this year or later.
Not sure how to post a picture but refer to link above. I get this is a result of kicking the number down the road and here we are today, but still doesnt change my belief. By looking at that list you can see which teams are in their window, hanging on to a window or just carrying that number in a rebuild (lions). Based on what im seeing on that list Kirk should be paid under 30 million a year to make it worth it. Which fits right on my number ive been saying I wouldnt mind havent Kirk back at 25 million a year max, if he doesnt want that and could probably get more on the Broncos or Browns and be a contender, I think it would be best for both parties. Thats the last case scenario and even then I would still say that is hanging onto something that isnt there. Lets a build a team from the trenches up, you worry about the QB after we already missed that window which was 2018 when we thought we had a contender you add a good FA QB. Its over with let it go. You could still be a contender in a year or two we have some pieces but it doesnt start with Kirk Cousins as a top 10 PAID QB. You wanna stay in Minnesota and win the first SB cool, now my number is down to 20 million a year because im tired of repeating myself!!! :)
