To a individual Coaches and Players come and go. I love the history of this organization, that's a lesson I learned long ago. I am in deep thought this morning so this will be long so buckle up if you read it appreciate it.
Let's start with my journey as a Viking fan. I became a fan at 13 the year 1994. What lead me to be a fan? Well for one I always admired Warren Moon. Before 1994 I liked the Oilers, Eagles and Vikings. You know typical kid stuff liking players attached to no one team. That was the time before internet, Sunday ticket, etc etc. Before then my Grandma RIP kept me in Church on Sunday faithfully, and black southern folk have Church all day so I barely got to watch Sunday NFL football before then LOL! Plus we was poor with one TV I rarely got to watch what I wanted to. All I saw was the Cowboys early in life and I knew I hated them from the beginning.
Then the glorious day came and we drafted Randy Moss. 1998 now I was big not going to Church like that and we had a family break money wise. We moved on up like the Jeffersons, so I had my own TV by then Now I loved Randy more than anything in those days even watched him at Marshall By this time still being from far away from Minnesota I didn't have access to every game, but stayed on the computer tracking what we was doing. The dial up version.
Sure I loved other guys CC, E.J, Winfield Kevin Williams, Culpepper, but Moss was my guy guy. Then we traded him I was so hurt almost in tears. Felt I would never love this team the same after that. I couldn't stop loving them the next year I was like we still have Culpepper he will make Burleson Moss.. At the same time I still liked Moss but was not following him because he was gone. Then Culpepper tore his knee up and we let him go. I hit my darkest times feeling like the sky was falling and I could never love this team like that era.
But 2007 hit and a gift from heaven fell to us named Adrian Peterson, followed by Jared Allen, Percy etc etc can't name everybody but y'all get the picture on to this present day. So I have favorites but I learned over the years they come and go it's bigger than that the names change.
Zim is the same.. In 2014 I felt he was the right hire. We needed his style then. He came in turned the defense around and from 2014-2017 he was doing well and on track. The second half of the Saints game in 2017 things started changing it went into the Eagles game and it's never been the same. It's like he was figured out and from 2018 until now the magic touch faded. I get it it's more than just the defense and the offense is not moving the ball.. He responsible for those hires like little Kubs though and it seems Zim stop growing and learning.
He deserved a shot in 2014 he had paid his dues and was way overdue. We gave him that shot and it was not for free. Some may think it's cruel to want someone fired. Nah Zim is set for life. He won't be on the street.. Matter of fact he will just turn around and be some ones DC. Or retire, but he well paid and has more money than I will see in my life. This a business though I mean Leslie Frazier was a good man, but he didn't get the job done. It happens results matter in this career. It might do Zim some good to step back refresh. Knowing our luck he will and then someone will get him at his natural calling as a DC. If he just focuses on defense as a DC he might make a team happy again. But the HC for the Vikings is ticking, unless he does a miracle in these last 9 games. Again never get so attached that you lose sight of the goal we have, and that is to be World Champions. Through the journey things change they been changing and will continue to change in the future. He loved this team no more than no other coach we had. They all put their time and effort to win.. Love this team nah no more than the other HC coaches in our past. He didn't love us before he was hired. When he gone somewhere else he won't care what this team doing. They all come and go players and coaches. I want a team trophy.
I wish Zim well if this is the end. I wish no ill will toward him or his family. But if this continues it's time to part ways. It's life it happens.
