The expectations on this team before the season was a mixed bag. After 5 games I think, objectively, most fans are leaning more toward pessimism than optimism--at least I am. I think the likely out come for this team will be winning 7 or 8 games, hell maybe even 9. If for some reason, they make the playoffs an early exit is likely--yup, I am in full downer mode.
I would never want anyone to be fired; however, if Zimmer is kept for next season...ugh...I thought of something that was unnerving. There are a lot of players on one year deals that likely will not be back. Mixed with aging vets and positions that will need upgrading, the team will be in pseudo-rebuild mode. I would rather Zimmer not be a part of a rebuild. I don't want bandaides on defense (or offense)--I would prefer to deal with a rebuild and new coach. I don't have confidence in Zimmer rebuilding, nor do I want to deal with...whatever the hell is going on with these one score games again (I blame the HC). Best case scenario, Zimmer is let go during the season so the fan base doesn't have to worry about the potential of him returning next season.
I am glad Kirk is playing well, but over his career he is the QB version of Zimmer. I would like to move on from them both. Teams are being ultra aggressive when they are not satisfied with HC or QB. Rams giving away 1st rounders to rid themselves of Goff. Eagles cutting bait on Pederson...who won the Super Bowl, which probably should have been our Super Bowl. Both of those teams are positioned, arguably, better than the Vikes.
One last thing....
If Mattison puts up numbers like he has, in Cook's absence, why are we paying Cook? I would rather have an all-pro center or guard. Cook is special, but if someone can put up similar numbers with a fraction of the cost....seems like a no brainer.
