After a disappointing Week 5 (given the top matchups anyway), let's hope Week 6 lives up to the hype. And all the hype is in Iowa on Saturday afternoon/evening as #4 Penn State travels to Funkytown 's backyard to take on the #3 Iowa Hawkeyes. All the pressure is on Iowa because they don't have another marquee game left on their schedule vs Penn St who can lose, but still get to the BIG10 Championship (and the CFP) if they beat Michigan, Ohio St and Michigan St, all of whom are ranked.
Outside of the BIG10 "Game of the Year", there are a smattering of interesting matchups while you wait for the Vikes/Lions on Sunday.
Friday, 10/8
Stanford @ #22 Arizona St - 10:30PM ET
Thanks to Stanford beating Oregon last weekend, the PAC12 is unlikely to send anyone to the CFP this year. Arizona St has a draft-worthy QB in J Daniels so if you can't sleep late on Friday night, check out Daniels and the Sun Devils.
Saturday, 10/9
#6 Oklahoma vs #21 Texas - Noon ET
The "Red River Rivalry" game at the Cotton Bowl. The Sooners have been living dangerously all season and will finally get beat one of these weeks. Spencer Rattler hasn't really had a huge win so far in 2021 and if he's ever going to break out, this game is the one to do it. Texas has something to prove after some early setbacks in the season and this game is typically a close one.
#13 Arkansas @ #17 Ole Miss - Noon ET
Both teams got a wake-up call in Week 5, getting clobbered by Georgia and Alabama, respectively. Arkansas needs a bounceback to prove they are for real and Ole Miss QB and 2022 1st Rd prospect Matt Corral also needs a bounceback to prove he's a top prospect. Home field should give the advantage to the Rebels.
#2 Georgia @ #18 Auburn - 3:30PM ET
Georgia arguably has the best defense in the country, but Auburn is a tough test for the Bulldogs. The atmosphere at Jordan-Hare Stadium should be electric.
#4 Penn St @ #3 Iowa - 4PM ET
This should be a classic defensive game and turnovers will be key. There are plenty of 2022 Draft prospects to watch in this one, particularly on both defenses. If the Hawkeyes win on Saturday and the Vikings cage the Lions on Sunday, it'll be Christmas in October for Funkytown .
LSU @ #16 Kentucky - 7:30PM ET
I think #16 is a bit too high for the Wildcats and we'll see how real they are vs a decent LSU team. The Tigers will be without their 1st Rd CB prospect, Stingley, Jr - arguably the best CB in the Draft. So the stage should be set for Kentucky QB and 2022 Draft prospect Will Levis to shine on another big stage to prove he belongs in the 2022 QB conversation.
