This is a critical situation? I find that odd, since whenever this team beats > .500 teams like the Lions, I always hear "that didn't mean anything, they just beat a bad team"... but if they lose then it was a "critical" game. It seems like a lot of hand-wringing for the team that has been the best in the NFL at beating up on bad teams. Sure, they lose about one trap game a year (2018 Buffalo, 2020 Atlanta, maybe 2020 Dallas), but they are very consistent taking out the trash.

I called it critical because, if they lose, the team goes to 1-4 with only a single win out of a 3-game home stand early in the season. It would also be embarrassing to lose to Detroit, and vastly expand the doubts about Zimmer. I could call it "dangerous" if that's preferable.

Is it a double standard to say it doesn't prove much if, instead, they win? Sure, to a degree. But that's always the case with easier assignments: if you can't even pass a basket-weaving class, it tells everyone you didn't even care (or show up).

As you say, Zimmer usually handles the weak teams, so it shouldn't be an issue. (But...if they don't, what does that mean? Couldn't resist asking..)

If we lose fire EVERYONE...

If we win... It don't even feel good, it's the god damn Lions.

Playing the Lions is usually a “No Win” situation. When ya beat them, you are expected to, therefore no cause for rejoicing and no prospects for a momentum turn. Lose to them??? Since when do we usual split with Detroit? We beat their ass annually most years. Chicago yeah we struggle with them especially in Chicago, but Lions we own them a lot of times.

Yeah, get ready for it. I don't see this as a trap game, just an easy win that will get the positive fans murmuring again and the negative fans saying that they didn't win by enough.

Since Zimmer took over, the Vikings have had mixed results. They struggled early when Jim Caldwell was HC in Detroit going 5-3, then after Matt Patricia took over the Vikings went 6-0, but Patricia was a numpty.
Campbell is an unkown with what tactics he will employ, so that puts an element of the unknown into it.

I'm not sure how they will approach it. If they win the next two games (I think 1-1 is most likely) and get to 3-3 it could be a case of the coaches wanting to stick with what they have, but if they are at 2-4 at the bye one would expect a change to be made.

It will be tough on a rookie with the schedule we have and the D Linemen he will have to face but I think you need to give him a chance and see what he has.
I hope the coaches don't think the schedule is too hard for a rookie and try and cuddle Darrisaw, but if jobs are on the line I expect that may happen.

If the Lions were at full strength I would say it is going to be a tough game, but with the injuries they suffered last week Minnesota should win.
However, some of the things I've seen through this week from the Lions players suggest they are pi$$ed off with the performance last week and want to put things right. If they come out hard and play with a chip on their shoulder the Vikings better be ready.

The Detroit Lions are a flailing team that downgraded, yes, downgraded at QB and didn't produce an injury report for this game because they've produced an injury novel for the game. The Vikings not blowing the doors off this team at home would be completely unacceptable and grounds for firing. If they lose, Zimmer and Spielman should 100 percent be fired on the spot.
