Things really start heating up this week with some bigtime Conference matchups. There are bigtime games all throughout the entire day on Saturday so it's definitely a day to be a total couch potato and engross yourself in college football. I thought Week 1 ended up being a really entertaining week, but this has the making's of being one of the best college weekends of the entire year.
Friday, 10/1
#5 Iowa at Maryland - 8PM ET
If Iowa can get by this game, it sets up a massive Penn St / Iowa matchup next weekend that should be primetime in Iowa City. But Maryland is undefeated this season and won't be an easy out, especially at home. The Hawkeyes cannot get caught lookin' ahead to next week.
Saturday, 10/2
#8 Arkansas at #2 Georgia - 12PM ET
Arkansas and their rushing attack has been one of the surprises of the early college season and they face their biggest test going "between the hedges" at Athens. This one should be similar to the Georgia/Clemson Week 1 game and last week's Arkansas/Texas A&M game - "old school" football where turnovers and big players will decide the winner. Several 2022 draft prospects on the field.
#14 Michigan at Wisconsin - 12PM ET
The Wolverines are undefeated and have looked strong this year and Wisconsin has suffered two home losses to ranked teams (Penn St and Notre Dame). Should be a good game and we'll see if the Badgers have any fight left.
Louisville at #24 Wake Forest - 12:30PM ET
Wake Forest is undefeated and feature an up-tempo/gimmicky offense that keeps teams off-balance. With Clemson on the ropes, someone in the ACC needs to step up and if WF can get a signature win vs Louisville, they might jump to the front of the line. The Cardinals are coming off two solid wins against Florida teams (UCF and FSU) and a road win vs a ranked team could give them a huge leg-up in any end-season tie-breaking scenarios. Should be another good one.
#7 Cincinnati at #9 Notre Dame - 2:30PM ET
Cincy's signature game of the season and their bid to enter the Playoff talk; if they can win on the road vs a Top 10 team, they could potentially enter Playoff talk, but it will take a few losses to undefeated SEC teams, which should happen because they mostly play each other. I watch Cincy at Indiana and wasn't impressed with QB Desmond Ridder at all so he'll need to step it up. Notre Dame was neck-and-neck w/ Wisconsin last weekend before the Badgers had a horrific 4th quarter so the Irish are vulnerable. Again, should be a very good game.
#12 Ole Miss at #1 Alabama - 3:30PM ET
Massive SEC West game and huge for Heisman hopeful QB Matt Corral. If Corral has a huge performance and Ole Miss wins on the road in 'Bama, there's no doubt he'll be the Heisman front-runner and will immediately go to QB1 status for the 2022 Draft in all mocks and probably compete w/ Oregon's DE Thibodeaux for the top pick overall. Corral is just the type of mobile QB with an arm that gives Saban fits, too.
#6 Oklahoma at Kansas St - 3:30PM ET
Oklahoma has looked very vulnerable all season and Spencer Rattler hasn't exactly lit up scoreboards like past OU QB's under Lincoln Riley have (Mayfield, Murray, Hurts). Kansas St was undefeated until they ran into an undefeated Oklahoma St team last weekend and will not be an easy out at home to the Sooners. I wouldn't be surprised if this was another close game for Oklahoma and this might be the week they finally get upset after hanging on for weeks.
#21 Baylor at #19 Oklahoma St - 7PM ET
I don't know much about either team, but the winner of this game will be setup to challenge Oklahoma for the BIG XII regular season title.
#22 Auburn at LSU - 9PM ET
I thought Auburn looked like a real good a few weeks back during that "white out" game at Penn St and LSU needs a signature win after a down year in 2020 and losing to UCLA to start 2021.
