I thought the schedule for Week 2 wasn't exciting, but there ended up being a few surprises. Week 3 on the surface seems just as weak going in as Week 2 was and there's bound to be a surprise or two.
Games I think are interesting:
12:00PM ET
#8 Cincinnati at Indiana
The big game for Cincinnati and their QB Desmond Ridder will be in a few weeks at Notre Dame, but this should be a nice warm-up to that one. Indiana was supposed to be a decent team again this season and things haven't gone to plan for them, but they should be "up" for this home game vs a ranked team. It's a nationally-televised game on ESPN and a chance for Draft nuts to check out Ridder in 2021 after we last saw him vs Georgia at the Peach Bowl.
2:00PM ET
Nevada at Kansas St
Neither of these teams are ranked, and one is a non-Power 5 school (Nevada), so why is this matchup interesting? Much like the prior game, you'll have a 2022 QB prospect on the road vs a Power 5 opponent. This time it's Nevada's Carson Strong, a QB prospect that hasn't had much national exposure. This won't be nationally-televised but if you have ESPN+ or the BIG XII network, this should be a good matchup as Kansas St is 2-0 and should provide a formidable test for Strong.
7:30PM ET
#22 Auburn at #10 Penn St
A nice SEC vs BIG10 primetime game and we'll see how good Penn St is. I expect this to be a bit more "old school" defensive struggle like we saw in Week 1's Georgia/Clemson matchup. I like some of Penn St's LB prospects (Brooks being one of them) and they should provide a test for Auburn. If Penn St prevails, this really sets up a great Iowa/Penn St matchup in early October at Iowa City (if Iowa can get by a decent Maryland team on the road, that is).
10:15PM ET
#19 Arizona St at #23 BYU
If you're up late and can't sleep, check out Arizona St's 2022 QB prospect Jayden Daniels. He had some hype after his freshman 2019 season, but fell off the map last year in 2020. He needs some big performances to get back in the 2022 QB Draft Class conversation and this game vs a ranked opponent on the road provides that for him.
Yes, #1 Alabama has a road game at #11 Florida, but I don't think Florida will provide much of a challenge for the Crimson Tide. The Gators have QB rotational issues and the 'Bama defense should dominate in the Swamp, so I don't think the game will be interesting...although, I went back and re-read my College Football Week 2 thread and I said the same thing about the Oregon/Ohio State game (that Ohio State should win comfortably) and look what happened...I might be "eating crow" 2 weeks in a row....
