Coaching/GM Isn't Always The Issue

The game has changed since the Madden era. They keep changing rules making it harder and harder to cover WRs. Obviously CBs need to be able to cover, and that was my position I love the position. If you get pressure though you cause a QB not to throw perfect passes. A perfect pass is nearly impossible to defend. That heat causes a slight hiccup in timing and throws given defenders a chance to pounce. If you get Mahomes and Brady types all day to throw you won't stop them. Put them on the ground you can't complete a pass on your back. I do like a shut down CB though. Especially a Deion type who can take away a half of the field so I get what you saying. You need both a lot. Start me out with a Lawrence Taylor or Reggie White before a Deion when I start a team IMO.

The 3 best defenses I seen in my lifetime are 85 Bears who I didn't really see was to little, but was born so I'm cheating a little lead by Mike Singletary Richard Dent and company, Ravens led by Ray Lewis. Though Ed Reed patrolled the secondary at Safety, and Bucs lead by Sapp and Derrick Brooks. Those teams had solid CBs of course they can't suck, but those teams were physical and controlled all levels. They first stopped the run and played physical. Got you in obvious passing situations and then got  after QBs. 9 times out of 10 the most physical defenses caused the most havoc historically.

Before my time we have the 4 horsemen, the purple people eaters, and the steel curtain.. I give you one the Legion of the Boom is about the only DB centric historical defense I can think of. You need that pass rushing heat and physicality most times. I am not discrediting nothing you saying though Minni I see what you saying too. Just a nice little convo in the end you need it all on defense at all levels of the defense.

Jokes are supposed to be funny and the related to the coach/player/gm bit got old  for me about 20 years ago.  

Time is up for both the GM and HC, but avoidable losses happen to every team, including ones that are coached by SB winning head coaches and that have been put together by SB winning GMs. This one game isn't the nail in the coffin some are making it out to be anymore than the Vikings beating the Packers last year was redemption for them.  The entirety of the season should be the deciding factor.  Is this team a SB contender in January when all the dust settles is all that matters.  If they are SB contenders, no one will care about this loss.  If they aren't, there will be a bunch of other losses just as bad as this one that we can point too as evidence this regime needs to go.  

I am sorry you didn't see that I wrote "time is up for both the GM and HC". We will know if we aren't a SB contender before the season ends, but imo to save their jobs, Zimmer and Spielman need to be SB contenders in January.

The likelihood of that happening is next to nothing, but I will wait at least a few games into the season before I give up on my favorite team. Jumping to conclusions based on 1 week is fun and all, but Week 1 is not necessarily a good season predictor. One only needs to look at 2020 and what the Bucs did Week 1 to see that.

I've never given up on my favorite team. I have on occasions given up on those running it. I was there 2 years ago with this coach but reluctantly agreed he earned another chance by winning a playoff game.  Both Rick and Mike really. That now does seem like the last best chance they had. Even that only felt more like they deserved to be a called playoff team only. It didn't feel like they would seriously go through 2 more teams to get to the show. 

I understand and agree with your points, but look at Zimmer's defense when Rhodes was in his prime and on an island against the best receivers in the NFL, while the rest of the defense played 10 on 10, compared to the defense in the past few seasons.

Also note that the 49ers won the Super Bowl with Sanders. He put them over the top. When he went to Dallas, they once again were the better team.

I agree with you too. In the end you need very few weaknesses on defense or it gets exploited. I sure wish we could get back to playing great defense. I enjoy when we have stingy defenses. Right now in a small sample size our CBS look like the weakness. I don't understand why neither with the resources we put in that position?  Hopefully we figure things out SKOL!
