Most fans didn't realize it, but there actually were D1 College Football games this past weekend. No Top-25 teams were in action but there were a few Power 5 programs that were (Illinois vs Nebraska, UCLA vs Hawai'i).
Here's a couple recaps:
Pro Football Network - link
Quick note: the guys at Pro Fooball Network (including Tony Pauline) do a great job of covering college football w/ the perspective of focusing on upcoming Draft prospects so this is a good site to follow for draftniks.
CBS Sports - link
Game Haus - link
This site also focuses on draft prospects.
Just a couple notes:
- UCLA crushed Hawai'i which isn't a story, but something to watch going forward is the UCLA OL. All of the sites mentioned how UCLA's OL dominated and PFN made a comment on how they might have one of the best OL's in college football. That will get tested as #16 LSU travels to UCLA this coming Saturday night.
- Fresno State QB Jeff Heaner (formerly of the Washington Huskies in 2018) lit up UConn and has a little "sleeper QB" prospect attention, perhaps because Zach Wilson - also a slightly undersized prospect - lit-up some poor football programs in 2020 and everyone wants to board the "QB Sleeper train" a bit earlier this year. It's still way early and he's only 6'0" or 6'1" and listed under 200 lbs (not ideal height/frame for NFL; Zach Wilson was at least 6'2" and was 210/215 lbs) so we'll see. Fresno State is on the road at #11 Oregon this weekend so we'll see what happens vs a Top 25 program.
