I'm sorry for the early judgement, but this could be a total wasted pick.
I wasn't a fan of drafting him and yesterday he looked like a version of Christian Ponder with the short dump-offs and runs whenever he faced early pressure.
I fear it's a wasted third-rounder because someone felt the heat to draft a QB... any QB I guess.
And if you're going to complain about checkdowns... check out the boxscores of other preseason games, see the QBs' average yards per completion. Almost every QB is throwing checkdowns at this point. Teams are throwing their most vanilla plays out there. If he plays like this in the regular season I will then change my tune.
I fell into the same pitfall with other QBs like Josh Allen, Carson Wentz, and Lamar Jackson. They all had accuracy issues coming into the NFL that I believed would make them bust. It turned out that after developing their skills under the watchful eyes of their coaches lead to higher accuracy. The odds are that Mond does not become a starting QB and he does not pan out like the aforementioned QBs, but I haven't seen close to enough to rule that out. Though I will admit it is hard to trust our coaching staff with this.
For the sake of comparison with the other 2 QBs drafted right next to him:
C/ATT YDS TD INT SACKS
D. Mills 11/22 112 0 1 1-5
K. Trask 4/15 35 0 0 2-12
Not the fact that two other teams also made bad third round picks reaching for QB's.
I know nothing about Mills, but Trask is not a good QB. He's the same thing as the Iowa QB we grabbed last year.
