Hello and welcome to a quick recap of the 2020 season from our Purple Pain Accountability contest! I've went through all 405 predictions and chosen a best and worst from the main participants of the contest. Enjoy a compliment and
Oracle Bone Diviner
Best: The Browns are going to win a playoff game
This prediction was made pre-Week 1, so it was no guarantee that the Browns would even make the playoffs.
Worst: Case Keenum will lead the Browns to the playoffs, Mayfield will be benched
Not only did Baker not get benched, he played well enough to get the Browns their first win in a very long time.
@aussie61
Best: AFC Playoff teams will be PIT, BAL, CLE, BUF, KC, TEN, and IND.
This was a solid prediction, since the Dolphins were in the thick of things at the time of this prediction and fell short in favor of the Browns and Colts.
Wrong: Justin Jefferson will record less than 5 TDs, less than 56 receptions and less than 500 yards.
Aussie got dunked on by Jefferson, not only shattering those numbers, but also setting the rookie record in yards. This is about as poorly as a prediction can go!
azviksfan88
Best: Thielen will have 12+ TDS this 2020 season
This was a bold prediction, since Thielen hadn't ever had a double digit TD season. He then put up 14, cashing in one of the best predictions this year.
Worst: Vikings will go 12-4 and win NFC North title in 2020 season
There was a lot to choose from, with 20 wrong predictions. This one sticks out since the Vikings weren't anywhere close to 12-4, and even if they were, the Packers still would have won the North.
BosViking
Best: we don't make the playoffs in 2020
In hindsight you may think nobody but homers expected the 2020 squad to make the playoffs, but in reality it was a popular belief that they would at least make the dance with the 7th playoff spot added. Bos correctly saw this team for what it was.
Worst: Samia impresses as starter
OOF! Bos showed a bit of trust in a prospect and got burned. That's what happens when you trust the Vikings' O-line.
Danchat
Best: I will correctly predict the winner of at least 12 Vikings games in my Depth Chart Preview threads.
Going 12-4 in picking who wins Vikings games is a difficult affair. Trying to balance intelligent thought and emotions as a fan is a challenge, but I've done well here. It does help that Zimmer's Vikings are consistent at beating bad teams and losing to good ones.
Worst: The Packers will finish below 10-6 this year.
I did not see Rodgers' MVP season coming, and I jinxed them into having another 13-3 season. Yuck.
diehardtwinsfan
Best: Browns defeat Steelers in the AFC Wild Card round
Not only did the Browns win, they clobbered the Steelers!
Worst: Game 1 against GB will have less than 45 combined points and Packers will win in Q4.
We thought the offenses might look sloppy Week 1, but the opposite happened. They combined for 77 points and the Packers nearly scored 45 points alone!
Drank
Best: Buccaneers will make it to the Super Bowl
This was a solid prediction coming in the middle of the 2020 season. Some of the hype surrounding the Bucs had petered out by this point.
Worst: Packers beat us by 20 points or more week 8
Yet another prediction that looked like a freebie somehow went horribly wrong [right?]. The 1-5 Vikings pulled off the upset in their quest to ruin their draft position.
Funkytown
Best: Patriots finish below .500.
Many believed the Patriots would be fine without Brady... and without an offense... with hindsight, this looks obvious, but give Funky credit for not buying into the idea that Belichick can finish above .500 with a poor roster.
Worst: Lions will finish with a better record than the Packers.
There were 23 wrong predictions to pick from... and this one speaks for itself.
legendsofthenorth
Best: JJ is going to catch 70 plus balls
LOFN stuck it to JJ haters with this magnificent prediction. The odds were low JJ would surpass 70 catches, but here we are!
Worst: Zimmer wins coach of the year
He was closer to being fired than winning coach of the year.... not that he was close to being fired.
ocampo82
Best: Bucs over Wash in the Wild Card Round
This was the only prediction Ocampo got right.
Worst: Redskins (WFT) will have the worst record
Not only did they fail to finish as the worst team, they won their division!
OdinHammer
Best: The Cowboys will win no more than 6 games this year
A+ prediction here. The Cowboys get hyped too much every year, and he saw chinks in the Cowboys' armor. Dak's injury sealed it, but the team was a disaster on many other fronts.
Worst: Yannick Ngakoue will finish the season with 12+ sacks and 35+ pressures
Ngakoue was overrated, and actually had less sacks once traded (only 3 sacks in 9 games with the Ravens).
Raptorman
Best: By game 4, Trubisky will be on the bench and Foles will be starting in Chicago.
Raptorman nailed it, Trubisky was benched exactly by Week 4. Impeccable timing!
Worst: Patriots will have a better record than Bucs in 2020
Raptorman's faith in Defense First had him believing a sorry-looking Patriots team would be better than the Super Bowl champs. It turns out a bad offense gasses even the best defenses...
VikingsBoss
Best: Josh Allen will lead ALL rushers in the AFC Championship Game.
A very sneaky prediction, as both the Chiefs and Bills are known for not using their RBs very much.
Worst: Neither Cook nor Mattison will rush for more than 1000 yards or less than 600.
Banking on a Cook injury, he only missed two games and dominated too much to land under 1000 yards.
whoskmoon
Best: Vikings will take WR Jefferson
Nailing who a specific draft pick will be, especially at pick #22, is impressive.
Worst: Vikings will take a CB in the first round but he won't start in 2020
If only whoskmoon knew what the depth chart would look like in training camp... Gladney had no choice but to start with zero veteran CBs on the roster.
Thanks for reading, and let me know if I triggered you!
