Too young for most of the top 5 but
1) What if Daunte Culpepper didn’t suffer a knee injury?
Then he would have been benched, cut and we would have missed out on the 2nd round draft pick the Dolphins gave us for him. He was awful in his final season with the Vikings, to the point that his injury actually made the team better. The Vikings were 2-5 when Pep went down, and then won 6 straight when Brad Johnson came in and almost saved the season.
People forget this. We have fond memories of Culpepper bombing them deep to Moss and getting his roll on, but more vividly, I remember the eventual turnover machine. Dude was inventing new ways to fumble. He'd be running and pop the ball out with his own knee. SMH. He was painful to watch. This isn't to say he couldn't clean it up and get back on track, but clearly Moss helped everything click. Curious to learn about his overall efficiency ... and with/without Moss. Without the injury, was he even above average without Moss moving forward? It's been a long time. I suppose it depends on the quality at that position at that time. Things were a lot different back then. Man, we're getting old.
