so is it Cousins that keeps the training wheels on Cousins or Zimmer? I'm no Zimmer fan, but Cousins always seemed risk averse. He certainly can make the risky throws. I still have fond memories of that come from behind drive in GB a couple years ago where he threaded an absolute needle to Theilen for a TD.. too bad the kicker missed 3 FGs.
My point is that he can make those throws, even when the pressure is on. He's highly accurate by any scouting evaluation as well... so I don't think that is his flaw... so why the training wheels? Seems when he gets very "deer in headlights" that he does a lot more check downs and safe throws. I don't think that's a Zimmer thing. Ultimately, Zimmer still wants us to move the ball.
This is the only version of Cousins that gives the team a chance to win significantly more games than they lose. He isn't Mahomes. He is an average QB who needs a lot to go right to succeed. Having a good defense, a strong run game and minimizing turnover worthy plays is how you make those things go right.
I find it odd that people who know Cousins is a big step below the great QBs in the NFL still want him to do things only the great QBs can do. We know what he is, Zimmer knows what he is and if you want more it is time to stop blaming the coach for treating an average QB like an average QB, and start asking for the Vikings to try and get better at that position.
