second bite of the cherry

Mike Lynn was g.m. not owner, and the club was 7-9 in 16 playoff appearances including one Super Bowl loss during his run from 1975-1990. Rick Spielman is heading into his 10th year as g.m. with a 2-4 playoff record.   

Billy Joe Red McCombs the used car salesman was such a bad owner that his awfulness has given these bums the Wilfs a free pass for 16 years.  They diddle around with the wrong coaches, wrong g.m. and can't win to save their asses but god bless 'em there is a fan paeon to them written at least once a week on every message board in Vikingland.

Putting aside that I personally don't believe a word of the above, "wanting" to win doesn't make you win any more than wanting to do well at something does. You actually have to work at it and make smart moves which the Wilfs never have when it comes to football, outside of building buildings which is their primary business.  God knows where we'd be if they weren't at least good at, you know, that thing they are supposed to be good at.  To be a winner you have to not waste time on fantasies and selling p.r. that you're some other, championship contending team, while failing to actually build one of your own.


You're darn right they're patient - 16 years of not even a sniff at a SB, they'd better be patient lol.  As for what they think of qb's or football strategy, they don't know any more about it than the average fan which is to say next to nothing. They have behaved like giddy fans from day one, not hard-headed business people on a mission to win a title.  The best thing an owner can do is a hire the right people and get out of the way.  The worst is hire the wrong ones and then meddle ala Mark and Zygmunt.


That's been debunked about 100 times.  It's just another prop for hating on Kirk which is favorite Viking fan pastime these days.  Besides which the beloved Wilfs are the guys that signed off on the contract. This notion of the Kirk contract gets in the way of Ricky signing the key pieces to a title is so funny my sides ache from laughing at it. You step in sh*t then go oh we can't succeed cuz of this sh*t. Yeah? Well why did you step in it in the first place, Mr. Owner and Mr. G.M.?


He's only in year 8 you know, are you sure it isn't time for another extension? Most owners give a guy about 3-4 years to prove something. But you're convinced these guys are now finally really seriously at long last we probably think maybe could be might have to get themselves ready to pull the trigger on old flopper Mike.  Okey dokey.

They don't have a clue when to pull the trigger, they don't even know where that sucker is.   The time to pull it was after San Fran beat them to an embarrassing pulp and there's a young up and comer in Stefanski ready to take over.  But now he's building a winner in Cleveland and we still got old dino Mike.


Rick and Mike in danger?  Says who besides fans dreaming of a better team?   

What the Wilfs care about is irrelevant. Their history of screwing business partners back home tells me what they care about but who gives a crap. When it comes to this football team, saying you care is something their p.r. department has been pumping for 16 years. It doesn't matter.

Caring is about 10% of the equation and pretty much every NFL owner cares. You aren't in some unique position all setup to win because you "care." You have to actually be competent at building a championship organization which this gang is assuredly not. All the p.r. in the world about how wonderful it is that bamboozles fans doesn't change that.
