Red McCombs and Mike Lynn were about their dollars. They both made the Vikings worse. The Wilfs care about dollars, but when you are worth billions, you often care about other things. I see the Wilfs wanting to win a Super Bowl; they want to join the club of Super Bowl winning owners. Pride and glory are motivating factors, and when it is already likely that you will die a billionaire, pride and glory are more important than money. The Wilfs will bask in glory if they bring a Super Bowl to starving Vikings fans.
I see the Wilfs as patient but not stupid or uninformed. The Wilfs supported drafting Fields or Mond because they have realized the Cousins strategy has fallen short. Cousins' contract prevents the Vikings from keeping and acquiring the players they need to build a contender. And if we can see that Zimmer has not always matched wits with good coaches in big games, the Wilfs can see it too. If Zimmer and his D struggle again in a big playoff game, and if the problems is game plan and not being outgunned, I think Zimmer will be fired. And if Rick resists, I won't be surprised if the Wilfs go for an aspiring GM like Chris Simms. The NY connections are there.
If all the Wilfs cared about was money, Rick and Zim would not be in danger of losing their jobs because their Vikings have been mediocre to good. And that is enough to fill the seats, sell sponsors, and make money. There is pressure on Zimmer and Rick because the Wilfs want to win.
