What's the Best Scenario for our QB situation?

Well, they could have drafted an edge and maybe Zimmer really wanted Oweh because he is practically a clone of Hunter.

They still could have taken Davis and maybe Spencer Brown instead of Patrick Jones.

They also could have tried to sign a veteran like Eric Fisher who is only 30 and probably will be ready in October or November.

There were many ways to skin the cat.

Gotta look at track records we took 2 DE freaks one will turn out with Patterson. I still like Wonnum too. We didn't know Davis would be there anyways. No I like this path better on paper and we will see if it was the right path over time.

That is what I saw that I liked best from his highlights.  Most of his great throws came when the pocket broke down. Reminded me a lot of 2017 Case Keenum where he would escape pressure before it even had a chance to happen and make a good throw on the run.

the team....if Kirk struggles the first 8-10 games then the team will start quitting......

this message board.....(see Sloter & Heinicke).....Mond has 1 good series in the preseason and kirk has an incompletion during the regular season and some on here will already be calling for Mond....part of being a fan....at least of the vikings.....the backup is always better......


Now back to the actually OP question........
Cousins plays lights out for the next 2 years....thats easily the best case.....all the while Mond continues to develop and he works his way into a reliable backup who we can rely on if cousins is hurt for part of a game or for a couple games in a row....
is that a realistic scenario? who knows.....but it clearly is the best case....Mond wasnt brought in to take the reigns for 2021 so its important for him to keep his arrow pointed in the right direction and he shows he can play which in return hopefully takes cousins game to the next level as well....

just my opinion but im just happy we targeted a QB we wanted and were able to get him....our backup QB finally has some upside.....

I actually think Cousins is now on a "Super Bowl or Bust" timeline. I just don't see something like 10-11 wins and even 1 playoff win being enough...especially if the every-other-year pendulum continue. I think the Wilfs realize they are just rotating around mediocrity and directing Spielman to try for a new QB sets an expectation for different results - eventually, at least.

Now, I don't know if championship results are expected in 2021 or the current plan gets its chance through 2022. But if they had drafted Fields, I think the timeline would have been pretty urgent to get him off the bench by 2022. There is probably more patience with Mond but if the Vikings have a losing season in 2021, I think they will be willing to start rebuilding, give Mond a try, even if it means Cousins is an expensive backup for a year, in 2022.

Well, you beat me to it, but yeah, I grow weary of proclamations that Andre Patterson has some proven ability to develop defensive linemen. The guy has made his entire reputation on Danielle Hunter.
