KN, ISM, the Sushi TE. Raw speedsters. Could it be that Baby Kubiak is looking at what McVay and Shanahan are doing with all the sweeps, WR bunches, misdirection etc. and decided he needed more sizzle at the LOS?
Other than the Titans Minnesota has been running about the most conservative version of what Gary & Mike cooked up all those years ago. Maybe Junior wants to put his own stamp on it by adding more 21st wrinkles from his peers.
The Vikings have not looked too good on Jet Sweeps despite having Thielen and now Jefferson. It was almost like Gary would call it here and there just to prove he could. Sure, the blocking probably didn't help. But it just didn't look like it was something they worked on a ton.
ISM and KN can provide that. They can both catch swing passes and go. And now screens can be run with someone besides Cook and occasionally Adam. Sushi can pretend Chip at the Line and roll into the flat and grab a pass and move too.
Neither the WR nor the RB are 'return guys only' like that dreadful pick Osborn was. ISM has a lot of tape. And if he can get the drops under control man did he catch a lot of deep shots. And it wasn't only deep shots, he caught a lot more intermediate passes than what the Scouting Reports said. Not a guy running the full tree but with Jefferson and Thielen do you really need that if you can do 1 or 2 things well to really well? Even if he doesn't improve on drops or the route teee he can still do things near the LOS to help this team.
Very interesting Offensive selections today that wouldn't seem to fit what Gary did last year IMO. Kinda makes you think.
