Hi all, welcome to my 2021 QB prospects rankings! I'm changing up how I do rankings this year, as I simply haven't had enough time to do the ultra-exhaustive scouting that I've done for QB/HB/WRs the last few years. Instead, I'll share my draft board and go over every position, and share any insight I might have. You could consider this more of an "aggregated prospects ranking".
Key:
#: Player's ranking on my draft board
CC's gr = Charlie Campbell's grade
CBS gr = CBS Sports' grade
Brugler = Dane Brugler's grade
PFF Grade = The player's PFF grade in 2020, or in 2019 if they didn't play enough snaps in 2020
RAS = Relative Athletic Score. Grades 0 to 10 based on percentile on the player's measurables (size and speed) (Ratings in Bold and Italics are estimates based on Brugler's estimates)
Total = An arbitrary number generated by the previous columns, plus my own hidden rating
Comparison = A prospect who reminds me of another former prospect coming out of college
Note that the player comparison does not necessarily mean that I think the player will turn out to be that QB. I don't think Mac Jones will immediately flop like Dwayne Haskins did, I just think that Jones' size, stats, and strengths/weaknesses line up very similarly to Haskins coming out of college. I don't think Wilson is the next Mahomes, but his skillset reminds me of Mahomes back when he was just the toolsy Texas Tech product that nobody knew would be an MVP in his first year as starter.
Other Notes
Trey Lance concerns me a lot, since one year wonders have a higher bust rate than other QBs who played more than one year in college. He also faced little resistance in 2019 as North Dakota rarely faces tough competition in their conference. However, I am trying to be more open-minded after how the Josh Allen saga played out.
Kellen Mond fell a lot further down on my board than I expected he would. The draftniks are not high on him, but after going over scouting reports, he reminds me of scouting reports on Mitch Trubisky. That may sound like a diss, but it's not - most regarded Trubisky as a 1st round prospect. He's got a strong arm and mobility, but his play at Texas A&M wasn't anything special, as he struggled with ball placement and random bouts of inaccuracy.
I don't have any 5th or 6th round caliber guys, and the Day 3 QB prospects look weak. I could see Ehlinger and Book work their way up into backups.
Let me know your rankings for your top 10 QBs!
