Welcome to version 2 of my mock draft.
The landscape has changed quite a bit since my first mock, with the 49ers big trade jumping up to #3,the Dolphins dropping to #12 and then moving back up to #6 after a trade with Philly, and the Panthers trading for Sam Darnold as an insurance policy in case they miss out on the 5 QBs expected to go early in round 1.
This is not what a mock predicting what I think the Vikings will do,it is a plan of what I would do.
The big difference is the current Vikings regime still think they are in win now mode, whereas I don't think they have a snowballs chance in hell of making the playoffs.
This is a restock the roster with the best players available and reset the salary cap draft.
So,let's get to it.
I did one trade in this draft.
When I was on the clock in round 1,Miami offered #18 and Rd 2 #4 in exchange for #14. It's a massive overpay on their part and was gladly accepted to get the second rounder back.
Here is how the draft played out:
I have Mac Jones rated as the second best QB in this draft,so this was an easy selection.
The next 2 picks were also pretty straightforward,as the Vikings current OL is garbage and has been for quite some time. Not anymore, with Mayfied and Dickerson plus Moore who was added in round 4 the OL should be on an upward trajectory.
Jamin Davis is a high 2nd round talent so if is still there in the 3rd then you have to take him.
I wanted to take Tommy Togiai with my next pick, but there was an early run on CBs and then another run had started after the Davis pick so I decided to go with CB here and fortunately Togiai was still available with my next pick.
EDIT: I have added my draft rankings to each pick.
I grade by tiers, and for those who don't know how that works, the number represents the round in which the player is graded and the letter represents where in the round the player falls for each position group (A = first 10 picks;B = mid round; C = late round)
IMO it is a better system than just numbering guys from 1 to 300 as it places each player by position against their peers rather than comparing a LT to a CB and a LB as the numbering system does.
