Why are the rich able to get out sh*t all the time?
Is it fair and equal justice across the board?
Topic for the off topic board..... but it is a part of why so many of us have issues with the current justice system in place. Bottom line, it is not fair and equal justice across the board.
The system exists this way for a couple of reasons. #1 because almost half of politicians are made up of lawyers (the rest are career politicians who have never actually worked in the real world), and they have a vested interest in people paying a lot for legal representation. #2 because the people in charge in Washington and locally like that if they do something wrong they have a chance to buy their way out of it. The majority of them have something they have done that could be considered criminal, so it would be foolish of them to get rid of their get out of jail free card.
So say you are wealthy and get in trouble, you hire a top lawyer and he says we can cut a deal to avoid jail. Then you say hey I'm no politician or lawyer, I'll take the jail time! Serious?
Your portrait of the bad guy lawyers and pols vs. the rest of us good guys is pretty naive. The desire to get out from under is human nature, not restricted to some political or professional class. The rich having power in this society and the rest of us having little or none is imho much more germane in cases of legal trouble.
