The 4-3 is based on determinate factors.. were going to use 4 people to make your 5 people work. The inginiuity of the 3-4 was that we're going to fool you and make your 5 guess as to which 3 we send... Who's only job is to occupy blockers while we send our 4th.
The 46 defense broke that mold. We are going to make you block all of us and send a fifth. You won't know where it's coming from, you won't know if we drop our nose tackle to zone the middle. Nothing's off the board.
Then came the Tampa 2... Screw you, were gonna cover till our front 4 gets home... But susceptible to TE's in the crease.
Then comes Zimmer... Way ahead of the curve. Drop a 3rd LB, replace him with a slot that can tackle. Or a strong safety thats otherworldly (Harrison Smith)
Zimmer's 4-3 looks much more like a parcel or fangio 3-4 than it does Tampa 2.
