The Pats had the benefit of building a strong defense and maintaining a decent Oline while Brady was in the house. You could literally drop a scrub WR in there and Brady would turn him into an all pro. Let's not forget the Gronk/Hernandez years, dominating, literally 2 TE's that corners would struggle to cover consistently when in the field at the same time.

Add Moss, untouchable until the SB where the Giants got VERY lucky, along with excellent coaching in their behalf.

Bottom line is if you have a franchise QB, great coaching and a few key positions filled, you'll go deep into the playoffs...

I've said this on many occasions, Zimmer is his own worst enemy, he just doesn't know enough to get it done the entire season.

We have two 3rds, four 4ths, and two 5ths.

This is only one legit reason to trade down. And that is if there is truly noone at pick 14 who we value that much. Hard to believe that'd be the case at #14 though.

Trading down is a terrible idea.

If we really covet someone in round 2... We could use a 3rd+4th+5th to trade into the 2nd. Someone check the draft value chart. Maybe another 4th may be needed too. Not sure.

But that would still leave us with a 1st, 2nd, 3rd, two or three 4ths, 5th, 6th.

So if I take a guy 19 he now sorrier than if I take him 14. Oh my God if I take you 19 instead of 14 you going to be less of a player🤣🤣🤣🤣🤷🏾‍♂️

I see 4 targets for us that will address a need and not be a reach. If  3 are there we can trade down a few spots and still get one. The names: Slater will be gone that is who I would jump on. Darrisaw though he kind of reminds me of Andre Dillard the more I watch him, AVT, Phillips, AND , Paye. To a lesser extent if we don't get a OL round 1, I want Wyatt Davis, Cosmi, Mayfield RD 2, or Penn St. De rd2 if we do take OL rd1.

I thought there would be some suggestion of how and who we could trade with and who we would want to target that would be another good pick.

I mean the 2nd round picks have been OK except for Cook who has been excellent. I would say O'Neill is good.

The thing with Irv Smith Jr is that the Vikings gave Rudolph a huge extension two months after drafting Smith.

There is no other team that I could find that spent a 2nd round pick on a tight end and then gave their current tight end a large extension.

It was beyond stupid and only delayed Smith's development and their evaluation of that development.

The Redskins drafted Jordan Reed in 2013 but had given their two tight ends (Logan Paulsen and Fred Davis) extensions before the draft. Those were modest extensions.

The Colts have not done too bad in the 2nd round. Michael Pittmann Jr, Jonathan Taylor, Rock Ya-Sin, Ben Banogo, Parris Campbell, Darius Leonard, Braden Smith, Kemoko Turay, Tyquan Lewis, Quincy Wilson, and TJ Green since 2015.

The Saints have been doing well too. Erik McCoy, Marcus Williams, Michael Thomas, Vonn Bell, and Hau'oli Kikaka since 2015.

I'm not certain the Vikings will find a trade partner that is going to move up to #14 and give up their 2nd especially if they believe in this analysis.

I do not think it is worth it because the Vikings could miss out on a "better" player.

They could certainly find a trade partner to move down and pick up a 2nd round pick for if one of the top 5 qb’s is available. Mac Jones, Justin fields or trey lance one of those 3 has a decent chance of slipping to 14. From every rumor and legit nfl reporter it sure sounds like there will be at least 4 QBs that go top 10. But in a way this actually helps the Vikings in the sense that it should push other non qb positions with elite talent to fall to 14 or within a reasonable trade up spot for someone we covet without giving up future draft capital. For example if some like slater is there at 10 and the Cowboys (who all reports say they want a cb) is looking at the board and real good chance no cb is taken yet, would like to swap our pick for theirs and we only have to give up our late third round pick for i say do it for sure. Slater is a guaranteed day one starter, fits our oline scheme, and has a high ceiling. It’s basically the best pick we can make for our team in round one that fits best. So giving up one of our third round picks to move up to get a guy who will make a difference day one and a very positive difference is something we should be on board with. Also there should be at least 3 wr’s that go before our pick at 14 which just further moves other talent at other positions to us at 14. I think we are sitting in a good spot. I don’t think a 2nd round pick is necessary for us, but I also wouldn’t be too upset if say slater and darrisaw were both gone at 14 and a situation where a mac Jones or trey lance was there at 14 and the Steelers called and said they would trade 24 overall and their 2nd for the 14th pick. Something that could definitely happen. Btw the Patriots pick at 15 right after us and you can bet your @ss if someone like mac Jones is there at 14 they will be licking their chops at him falling to them at 15. Which means someone’s or the Steelers knowing we aren’t drafting a qb there would be a prime trading partner.

Bos if we going to stay put which I would if it meant a top Olineman then we going to need to call EV up because we have one true pass rusher. I do like Wonnum. But if Hunter got hurt ouch. Get EV with Weatherly and Wonnum then I might be okay with even trading up for Slater. Still a lot of moving parts. We clearly need OL first but a rusher is the 2nd need and it is needed before 78.
