Defense is real tricky, because we have massive holes and I really haven't looked at many defensive prospects. indicates my favorites on the team.
DT
1.Michael Pierce-Should bring power to our run defense, not much as a pass rusher true NT
2.Shamar Stephen- Man cut this scrub already
3.Armon Watts-Still growing cool with him as #3 DT
4.James Lynch- Thought he would do more? Young though with upside
Plan, Some want Geno, not sure what he has left though (on the fence with him) Other FAs I would look at are Kwann Short. Shelby Harris, or Maelik Collins. For the draft I would look at Barmore or if not Nixon from Iowa. So either a FA and a mid round draft pick rds 3-4 or A lower FA tier sleeper type and a high pick rd 1-2 Nevertheless 3T must be addressed with at least one good player.
DE
1.Danielle Hunter- talent like him don't grow on trees.. Trade him laughable 26 just entering his prime hall of fame talent.
2.Ifeadi Odenigbo-RFA tender him and keep him one more year. He is not a starter though rotational pass rush
3'DJ Wonnum- I like Wonnum has nice upside.
4.Jalyn Holmes- Never does nothing cheap depth I suppose
5.Hercules Mata'afa- Is he a DE or DT is my ?
6.Kenny Willekes- Intrigued by him. Liked him coming out the draft last year.
7.Jordan Brailford- Unknown think he played one game?
Think we might need to go FA route here like a Carl Lawson. Wanted EV then he clowned Cousins so that's out. Might be in the minority here but don't think we can take one in first round with OL and DT needs (unless we get FA at those spots) I think we have more depth and upside players here especially with Hunter back then OL and DT. So FA and a mid rounder type.
LB
1.Eric Kendricks- Heart beat of this defense
2.Anthony Barr- Would approach him with a pay cut, will have to chose him or Wilson. I chose Barr if he takes less
3.Troy Dye- I was not to impressed with him last year
4.Ryan Connelly- Don't know much about him
5.Cameron Smith- Hope he can play again unknown heart condition
6.Blake Lynch- I like him showed me more than Dye did Sleeper next year
Plan, Bring back Todd Davis for cheap and add a later round player. Eric Wilson fate is determined by if Barr takes pay cut and what Wilson asking for.
CB
1.Cameron Dantzler- Sky is the limit, must add muscle and stop getting hurt
2.Jeff Gladney- Won't be special, but could be decent, needs to make less mistakes and create turnovers
3.Mike Hughes- Who? laugh out loud always hurt, I lost hope
4.Kris Boyd- I would think about moving him to safety. He is not to bad for depth and special teams
5.Harrison Hand- I think Hand could be a decent 3 or 4 in the future
6.Chris Jones- Don't tender him let walk
7.Dylan Mabin- Only 23 preseason will determine fate unknown
8.Cordrea Tankersley- Once highly regarded running out of time 27 to prove himself
9.Tae Hayes- Never heard of him but young 23
Plan, DO NOT use a high pick on CB , instead add a vet with experience to a already young group. Do that and then I will be okay with a 5th or 6 rd CB in draft
S
1.Harrison Smith- If Kendricks the heart Hitman is the brain of the whole operation. Restructure to give us cap relief and add a year or 2 so he finishes a Viking
2.Josh Metellus- Likely a #3 and core ST player only
3.Myles Dorn- I have him as a sleeper who makes the team next year
4.Luther Kirk- Never heard of him
Plan, I would add a FA safety, Ant Harris will cost to much so we will move on. Find a cheaper option. Consider moving Boyd to safety and adding one around the 3rd round.
Summary, defense had me sweating it is a complete mess right now. A lot of unknowns on defense, major work to do on this side of the ball. We fixing to find out if Zim can fix it. Offense is way ahead of the defense IMO!
