They don't have to be the 98 offense (one of the most prolific in history) to be above top 10 in a given year.
JJ has shown thus far he's a top tier receiver. Arguably already top 5. And Theielen is very solid. Cunningham wasn't even all that special, he just had a nice deep ball. By most measured Cousins IS actually better.
At the end of the day this team is being hamstrung by a forced conservative offense.
There were really only 2 areas where the '98 offense was significantly better:
1. Randy Moss >> Justin Jefferson (and every other WR in NFL history)
2. The 1998 OL was better than 2021 by...OMG.
OL is a massive difference. Starters were Todd Steussie, Randall McDaniel, Jeff Christie, David Dixon, Korey Stringer. AND - backups were Matt Birk, Everett Lindsay, and Chris Liwienski, and to call them "quality backups" is an understatement, because Lindsay and Liwienski eventually started multiple seasons for the Vikings and other teams. Denny Green and Mike Tice were as good at identifying offensive linemen as they were bad at behaving ethically.
