Just though I'd put a thread out there for non-Purple Pain and "popular" Big Boards among draftniks (not Kiper or McShay, either).

Interesting things that popped out to me:

- 5 Deepest positions in Top 100:
WR (16)
EDGE (13)
CB (11)
OT (10)
OG / LB (9)
Three of the top 5 deepest positions are positions the Vikings need quality prospects (EDGE, OT, OG), which reinforces the need to get as many Top 100 picks as possible and not stockpile Day 3 picks. That's difficult without that 2nd rounder, which lends itself to trading down in the 1st far enough to pick up another qualify Top 100 pick. Rick can use his 4th/5th Rd ammo to move up in the 2nd/3rd rounds.

- With WR being as deep as it again this year, it should be possible to pick up a quality WR3/WR4 prospects on Day 3.

- 10 EDGE players in the Top 55 and Zimmer has stated he needs more pass-rushers. It could be a good time to use an early Rd pick on one vs Day 3.

- Rosseau has probably been the most popular pick to the Vikes at #14 among the "expert" mocks out there and Brugler has him at EDGE4 and #24 overall.

- RG Wyatt Davis was another popular early pick for the Vikes and Brugler having him at #41 overall reinforces the recent trend of him sliding down boards after tape review and an injury-plagued shortened season in 2020.

Interesting tidbits that I noticed off the top of my head:

- 5 out of his Top 10 opted-out of the 2020 season, so it's interesting to me that there weren't many "blue chip" prospects that emerged this past season (Zach Wilson, DeVonta Smith and Kyle Pitts being the 3 probably). That doesn't say a great deal about Round 1 prospects in this Draft class and it sorta reinforces what I've been saying: outside of perhaps the Top 7 or 8, you start getting into prospects that perhaps aren't exactly classic Round 1 material that can plug-n-play immediately Day 1. It's a good year to trade down in the 1st if you're in the middle where the Vikes are and pick up another Day 2 pick, IMO.

- Again, staying w/ Slater over Sewell.

- Washington DT Levi Onwuzurike is starting to cement his status as DT1 over Nixon and Barmore it seems.

- After the "Big 4" QB's (Lawrence, Wilson, Fields, Lance), it's Mac Jones as QB5 and then no other QB in the Top 50. Kyle Trask's stock has definitely dropped after the Cotton Bowl and him not practicing at this week's Senior Bowl hurts. Trask is someone who needed a strong pre-Draft process and it looks like his only chance is a Pro Day and possibly impress scouts/teams during pre-Draft interviews/virtual visits.

- Just 1 Safety in his Top 50...it's a weak class at the top for sure, but I do like a few names on Day 2, though. Alot of the S prospects out there are the hybrid/SS type (think Jacoby Stevens from LSU) and they're all a work-in-progress.

- OG Wyatt Davis (Ohio St) was once a popular pick at #14 for the Vikes in late 2020/early 2021 mocks and his stock has really plummeted following the College Playoffs and further review of his tape I think. He'll still be drafted in Round 2 but it seems Round 1 is no longer an option.

- OT Dillon Rudunz has been a popular riser at the 2021 Senior Bowl this week and with Jeremiah putting him in his Top 50, he's looking like an option at the back-end of Round 2 if the Vikes go OT in Round 2 again (if they actually get a Round 2 pick, that is).

I also noted no Aaron Banks, either. I think someone messed up a bit...also Kendrick Green at #112 (early 4th) - he's starting to gain a little steam which makes me wonder if people have started to review his tape in detail (BIG 10 coaches/media gave him All BIG 10 1st Team)...

Dylan Moses (#114) and Shaun Wade (#121) - both 1st Rd picks if they came out last year and they've both seemingly dropped out of Day 2...Patrick Jones II at #137, too....

I would take Wade in the 4th and try him out at S - he has good speed, is a very solid tackler/blitzer and has some coverage abilities in the slot....

Dane Brugler of The Athletic released his list of Top 10 QB's - link

The surprise is Davis Mills, who you may not be aware of. He was a 5-star recruit from Georgia who chose Stanford over Alabama, Wisconsin, Georgia & Michigan. He redshirted in 2017 and sat behind KJ Costello in 2018 and then again to start 2019, but when Costello went down w/ injury in 2019, Davis came in and played so well that Costello had to transfer to Miss St to remain a starting QB and keep his NFL dream alive. Mills was the starter for Stanford in 2020 in their very shortened season, so he doesn't have many starts to his name. He has the traditional QB physical build (6'4", 220 lbs), a solid arm, can read defenses and move around in the pocket well enough. While he can move outside the pocket, he's not a mobile QB relative to Fields, Lance, Mond, Book or Newman.

I've been searching since the middle of the college season for a mid-Rd QB to become QB2 and potentially earn the QB1 job in 2-3 seasons and I think Mills is probably the best bet in this class, IMO. He has the physical tools, but just needs more experience as he has limited starts at the college level, so sitting behind Kirk and developing seems like a good thing. If the Vikes just ride Kirk out in 2021/2022, someone like Mills could be ready to start in 2023 and the Vikings won't have to overpay in the open market for a decent QB. I don't think Mills ceiling is Mahomes or Rodgers - his ceiling is probably Matt Ryan/Kirk Cousins level, possibly game manager level like Alex Smith - but it would be nice to have a QB on a cost-controlled contract for a bit, and who knows, by the time 2023 rolls around we might have a stable OL.

Fields does seem to be slipping down boards; from Tony Pauline's blog on Pro Football Network yesterday (2/23) - "From a physical and arm strength standpoint, Fields is superior to Wilson — there is no denying this. But go back to The Draft Insiders podcasts from December when I first broke this story. At that time, I reported people were telling me they feel Wilson would be a better NFL quarterback because he processes information quicker and better than Fields. Pauline is one of those "experts" that I have followed for a while because he seems to be "piped-in" to NFL Front Offices and their Scouting Dept's.

With any mobile QB like Fields, you need a OC that can shape the offense to suit their strengths and I'm not sold the Vikings have the current offensive coaching staff or system to take advantage of Fields' abilities. He's probably going to need some time to develop, learn to read NFL defenses and tendencies, and learn to look off primary targets a bit more to become an effective runner/passer like a Russell Wilson. Early on, you're going to need to simplify game-plans if you start him Wk 1.

Gil Brandt of NFL.com put out his Top 100 2.0 on 4/19 (link) and while it's not worth posting the entire 100, there are some selections that have me scratching my head a little bit:

Gil Brandt is probably the only major "expert" out there that has AVT above Slater. I guess I'm not seeing it...

I don't think I've ever seen Peter Werner so high and I'm not sure I've seen him higher than teammate Browning and certainly not 50 spots higher.

...and Brandt moved him up 23 spots...probably the lowest I've seen Bateman.

Down 65 spots...did I miss something recently on Cosmi? I thought he was a fringe 1st and early 2nd Rd pick.
