What They're Saying:
To me it comes down to one word....Coaching. Can and will Sean Payton outcoach Mike Zimmer in a game that I believe the Saints absolutely have to win. Yes, theoretically seeding doesn't matter as much this year but there is still the matter of winning the NFC South for a 4th straight year to attain. Zimmer gave the Saints fits with the way he schemed the defense against the Saints in the Playoffs last year and Payton in my opinion got caught overthinking and not riding the Hot player (Taysom Hill) in a win or go home game.
I understand this is a short week but with the Playoffs about 2 weeks away you don't want to limp into it playing poorly and getting off to slow starts like the last two games. Look at the Steelers. They're in the playoffs too but have lost three straight and not too many are taking them seriously as a Super Bowl Contender. Payton has had this core group for years now and he has to push the right buttons to get a win Friday or be forced to win a game against a division rival with nothing to lose and play spoiler in Carolina.

Agree.
With that said, Vikings had the rug pulled out from them Sunday. They’re gonna have to pick themselves up off the mat and find a way to get excited about playing five days after their playoff hopes were crushed. And on Christmas.
We are playing for a division championship. And revenge for last year. If Payton is ever gonna beat Zimmer, this is it.

Not making adequate adjustments for the shifting Minnesota did to exploit our weakness was huge. Not having the team ready to play was probably the bigger issue though. I truly think that Sean learns from his mistakes though and I think we will be motivated like it’s 09 all over again this year.
It comes down to execution.
When the ball is thrown to you past the first down marker on 3rd, catch it.
When a run play is called and you are to pull and crack back on the DE crashing down, make the block.
When you are defending a WR, don't ad lib. Play your keys.
If we do this all day, we will be fine.

I think we really give Kurt and company the business on Christmas day.
If we get beat, it wouldn't surprise me. If we win, it wouldn't surprise me, either. That's where I am with this game.
The Vikings DL is no where near as talented as last years team. That’s where the Vikings won last years game. They are one of the worst teams at pressuring the QB this year. That being said, the OL better keep Brees clean especially up the middle.
The Saints secondary will be tested by Thielen and the rookie from lsu, so the offense better put up some points. If a WR or 2 steps up and makes some catches for the Saints I expect a comfortable Saints win.

Rather than starting a new thread, I’d like to just add what I believe to be the key matchups (injuries considered) for the Xmas day matchup vs the Vikings...
Onyemata/Rankins vs Garret Bradbury: Bradbury has largely struggled all season, and if the Saints pair of talented DTs can push him around, that will create interior pressure, which is a major problem for any QB.
Drew Brees vs Anthony Harris/Harrison Smith: The Vikings CBs are weak... but these 2 Safeties have give Drew Brees trouble over the years (Harris especially). If Brees can manipulate these two and compromise their “eye discipline” he could have one of his “Drew Brees” type games where he looks like a elite-level surgeon (like pre-car crash Jonathan Strange).
Demario Davis/Kwon Alexander vs Dalvin Cook: If the DL can keep the LBs relatively “clean” then it will come down to DD and Kwon filling the running lanes and not allowing Cook to get into the secondary. Hitting the wrong gap could easily result in Cook popping a huge run and allowing the Vikings to gain momentum. Hit Cook hard, hit Cook often, and wrap up.
Lattimore/Jackrabbit vs Thielen/Jefferson: Thielen is a smart and physical WR, and he has incredible hands. He has typically played well via the Saints, and his teammate Jefferson is a ROTY contender that brings speed, size, and playmaking ability. It remains to be seen how the Saints will utilize Latt and Jackrabbit against this duo, but whoever marks who, they need to get the job done. With a backup FS playing in the Saints secondary, the CBs have little margin for error.

Agree with many of your points but expecting a comfortable Saints win made me chuckle. In 40 years of fandom I’ve expected a comfortable Saints win maybe 3 or 4 times.
Payton is Zimmer's b*tch in the playoffs; this is a playoff game pretty much.
Maybe it's wishful thinking. Most Saints fans remember the Minnesota Miracle--and if we don't, the networks will remind us. And they remember the more recent overtime debacle. These fans want to see a blowout. They want to the Saints begin with, oh, say, a 21 point lead in the first quarter interspersed with 3-and-outs by Minnesota. A final of maybe 56-0 would be acceptable, with many long plays that could be broadcasted repeatedly by the networks. They want to see Minnesota fans tortured by memories of past Vikings failures of the sort that Saints fans have been subjected to year after year.
The Vikes have nothing to lose, playoff chances are basically next to nil for them they will probably have trick plays and will go all out with nothing to lose.
Zimmer's made Payton look like what he really is, a mediocre head coach when it comes to the playoffs.
My hope is the Saints come out angry and aggressive and set the tone. If they come out flat and lethargic, they will lose.
The Vikings are on the outside looking in - but you know they will be playing like this is their Super Bowl.
If the Saints play like they can roll their helmets out on the field and win, then it will get ugly because Zimmer knows how to disrupt Payton and get him uncomfortable as a play caller early.

Minnesota fans seem to hate us as much as we hate them. I've talked to several that still remember the mauling we put on Brett Favre as somehow Payton being a dirty coach... Of course, their whining led to bogus Bountygate, etc....
My point is that I fully expect them to give full effort to take us down a notch.
But our boys will be fired up! Go Saints!

For all those that will be engaging with Vikings fans, just remember they too had a bounty program so bring that up when they try to whine about ours in 09.
Yep, that'll be it! Eff the Saints!
