Mel,
I cannot imagine what is like to be on the victim side of that crime. I know a couple people who were raped, and I'm sure I know quite a few more who were raped but never spoke about it. It's a life changer, and not in a good way. I think Reignman gets that. I know I do. His point though is that there's another side to that equation as well, and that is why we have due process.
I don't see why this has to be an either/or situation. Whether it's an actual rape or a false accusation, both are heinous and both are life changing. Truthfully, I don't think anyone knows the true numbers of where this fits other than God Himself, and that's why in an imperfect society run by imperfect people that the checks and balances are necessary. We cannot just throw all that out because of the nature of the crime.
You're right, it shouldn't be either/or, but if it is ... I know what side I'm fighting for.
As far as due process ... how many rapes go unreported? How many that ARE reported get thrown out because of a lack of evidence, especially when alcohol is involved? Due process? It's not that simple either. Not even close.
Regardless, yeah ... give the choice of being raped or being accused of rape ... pretty sure I know what nearly 100% of the world's population would choose. But those two things are comparable? No. That's where I was triggered. Just ... wow. I can't.
