But here is this:

Report: Browns will try to trade for Patriots backup QB Jimmy Garoppolo by Ryan Wilson

Despite drafting quarterbacks in the first round on three occasions since 2007 -- including Johnny Manziel in 2014 -- the Browns are in desperate need of ... a franchise quarterback.

Rookie Cody Kessler was serviceable under trying circumstances in 2016 -- the third-round pick completed 66 percent of his passes and had six touchdowns versus two interceptions, but he was also winless in eight starts. (Yes, we know, QB wins aren't the be-all end-all, but the point remains: The Browns could stand to upgrade the position.) The other quarterbacks to see the field last season are, for various reasons, short-term solutions (Josh McCown is 37 and Robert Griffin III shows no signs of returning to the form that made him Offensive Rookie of the Year with the Redskins in 2012).

Which brings us back to the Browns' ongoing search for a quarterback. Perhaps the most popular candidate to be in Cleveland in 2017: Patriots backup Jimmy Garoppolo

I'm just wondering why on earth the Patriots would want to part with Garoppolo now with Brady nearing the end of his career. And if you're Garoppolo why would you want to leave? I would stick around to inherit that dynasty and a classy organization like the Patriots over going to the dysfunction that is some of these teams mentioned lol. Especially the Browns. Man I would never play for that team even if they offered to pay me double what anyone else had offered. In the long run you're going to lose money and most likely hurt your career playing for them.

Unless the Patriots' system is also going with Garoppolo, it's a moot point. I'd be very skeptical making a deal with that organization. When was the last trade the Patriots were on the losing side? They've fleeced the Vikings numerous times.... 4 for 1 Cordarrelle Patterson, Randy Moss trade, etc.

If Belichick is looking to trade a particular player, there's probably a reason why.... He's not that good.

It's probably too early to tell, but he looked pretty good in relief of Tom this year before he got injured. He has 94 career attempts, 5 TD's, no INT's and a 106 rating. Not too shabby. However they might end up in a Favre/Rodgers type situation soon. Jimmy has rode the pine for 3 years now and his rookie contract ends after 2017. Rodgers rode the pine for 3 years before the Packers finally forced Favre out. So they might have to make a deal to get something for Jimmy or risk losing him for nothing in FA, or if they decide to keep him it might be Brady looking for a new team. Kraft seems quite loyal to Brady though so I don't see that happening.

Again, just to play devil's advocate, Matt Cassel also looked pretty good in relief of Brady in 2008.... In fact, he looked so good that the Chiefs traded the #34 overall pick for him and signed him to a mega contract.... We all know how that turned out.

Garoppolo may be good. I'm just a firm believer that New England's system makes players better than they really are.

Haha I had Cassel in the back of my mind too. But all the more reason to keep him, if players do play that much better in the Patriots system. But Billy boy probably thinks he could plug in any QB and keep on rolling so it wouldn't surprise me if they went that route too. If I'm Garoppolo I probably do anything to stay. Unless it's looking like Brady might play another 3-4 years. 6-7 years is way too long to ride the pine. That's almost half a career. In fact 3 years is quite long, but the Patriots aren't your average ordinary organization. That's the best place to be if your goal is to become legendary. QB's got those egos though so Jimmy probably believes he could become legendary just about anywhere including Cleveland xD.

No doubt. Trading away Garoppolo right now is probably the dream scenario for Belichick. He acquires another 1st round or 2nd round pick, drafts another QB and molds him while Brady plays another year or 2.

Yeah Brady doesn't seem to be aging quite as badly as some other QB's. Hard to believe he's been in the league for 17 years, and has been a full time starter for 16 already. Manning made it 18 (39yo) before he broke down, although the neck injury didn't help him. Favre looked pretty good in his 19th (40yo), but injuries took him down quickly in the 20th. If the Patriots can keep him upright I could see Brady having another good productive 3-4 years, but then again he's already 39 and will be 40 by the time 2017 starts, so that puts him at 42-43 in 3-4 years.

I think the Patriots would be nuts to get rid of Garoppolo.This years QB class is not very strong and every prospect has their flaws.Brady will be 40 when the new season starts,one hit is all it takes to end a career,and without a solid QB backup your season is toast.
What we witnessed in Minesotta this year should give pause to GMs all around the league.
I mean,how did you feel every time Bradford got hit,and the thought of Hill coming in? (puke)
