It has been 1 week and while week 1's even with a preseason often are outliers of the entire season, there are still some things to be gleaned from the Vikings week 1 loss.
#1 "Anyone" could not play as well as Rhodes, Mac and Waynes did last year. We have forgotten what truly horrible CB play looks like to the point that average CB play seemed horrible last year. It does get worse than 2019, much worse, and we see that now. I am hoping this gets better, but now we see why Zimmer played Rhodes and Waynes over Hughes and Hill.
#2 The Packers are likely a playoff team. Since 2018, the Vikings have only lost to two non-playoff teams, with 10 of their 12 losses(not counting 2019 week 17) coming against teams that made the playoffs. That means the odds of the Packers not being a playoff team are incredibly low. Conversely, if the Vikings had beat the Packers, they might have well just packed it in and got Love some reps for the rest of the season. The Vikings have only beaten one playoff team in 2 season regular seasons, and that is the 9-7 Eagles twice. 16 of 18 wins have come against non-playoff teams.
#3 Our interior Dline is horrible. Unlike the secondary, the interior of the Dline has very little potential to improve. They are who we thought they were, and we see now why the Vikings invested the most FA spending on that spot.
#4 Hunter is the most impactful player on this defense.
That is it, that is all I know pretty much for sure about this team after week 1. We don't know that they can't turn it around and be an above average team, and we don't know that they aren't capable of going 0-16. Cheer up people, it could get much better and certainly can't get any worse.
