After the first off-season in years where the team cut/didn't extend/traded multiple starters with a number of good years left, many fans will be wondering if the Vikings made a good decision walking away from so many veteran starters. To that end, I thought it would be fun to track the success/failures of former Vikings as the season progresses.

Let's start with the most important former Viking:

Kyle Sloter - didn't even make a practice squad

The rest of the QBs:
Teddy Bridgewater - Starting for the Panthers
Case Keenum - Backup for the Browns

WR:
Diggs - Starting for the Bills
Patterson - Starting kick returner, #4 WR for the Bears
Wright - Unemployed
Brandon Zylstra - 5th/6th WR on the Panthers

TE:
Pruitt - #2 TE for the Titans

RB:
AP - #2 RB for the Lions
Murray - #2 RB for the Saints
Mckinnon - #3 RB for the 49ers

Guard
Josh Kline - Unemployed
Tom Compton - Backup guard for the 49ers

DT:
Linvall Joseph - Starting NT for the Chargers
Sheldon Richards - Starting 3Tech for the Browns

DE:
Everson Griffen - Backup DE for the Cowboys
Steven Weatherly - Backup DE for the Panthers

CB:
Trae Waynes - IR for the Bengals
Mack - Nickle Corner for the Bengals
Xavier Rhodes - Starting CB for the Colts
Craig James - #4 CB for the Eagles
Justin Coleman - Starting CB for the Lions

Safety:
Kearse - Suspended for 3 games
Sendejo - Starting safety for the Browns
Marcus Epps - Backup safety for the Eagles

LB:
Elijah Lee - Backup LBer for the Lions

I am sure I missed some, particularly at TE since there always seem to be some former Viking TE that sticks on some team somewhere. Let me know who you would like added and I will put them on the list, but these are the players who I will track, adding PFF grades, stats and the like for each week as we go.

Prior to week 1, we already see a couple of surprises with former Vikings. In particular, Griffen is a backup while Sendejo and Rhodes are both starting.

Griffen as a backup? Wow. To have that kind of depth. *drool*

Also, it's interesting to see Kline still unemployed. I remember how big of a fit Vikings fans were throwing over that. Of course, throwing Rick under the bus as a stupid idiot. How does that look now? Maybe sometimes there are things that we just don't know/see. Maybe it's okay to trust these guys' judgments. Maybe sometimes.

Nice idea, whoskmoon , I was thinking of doing this myself, but I would have done it by team, but I think I like it better by position.

I forgot about Brandon Zylstra for a while, I wonder if he'll get a chance to break out in Carolina.
I think Griffen is going to start in Dallas, I don't think they're going to bring Randy Gregory back as a full-timer.
It's also not clear if Rhodes is going to start in Indy. We'll have to see the snap counts once Week 1 is finished.

Good catches, I have added them to the list. Epps was a guy I thought the Vikings made a huge mistake letting go last year in favor of Sendejo for a few games. He would give us some much needed safety depth and the move wasn't very forward thinking in my opinion.

I did not put two and two together when I saw Hall blowup my fantasy RB on the goal line last night. He certainly looked like someone who might have helped the team out at NT on that play for sure.

Was that on him? He was so out of position to make a play on that, it sure doesn't seem like it, but maybe he was just that bad on the play.

Stats for all of these are coming I am just waiting for the final game tonight and PFF to post some of their numbers. One thing I will say, after Sunday's game it is seeming more and more likely I will have two former Viking QBs to track soon.

I am and have been really big on Danzler before we drafted him, and couldnt believe we ended up getting him. Gladney is exactly what I thought he would be, a player just like Hughes who always has some type of injury. No more high picks on DBs, ever. FIx the damn lines. Agree on the high picks for DBs. It just seems like a waste when good CBs consistently hit free agency every year. Spend high draft picks on positions that don't typically hit free agency unless they are bad or past their prime, like QB, tackle, DTs, LBers and edge rusher.
