The Packers and 49ers with their interior rush, for example, just destroy Cousins because he doesn’t move off his spot in the pocket. There’s also times over a season where you need the QB to do something that wasn’t drawn up on a chalkboard and he isn’t really athletic enough to go off script and make miraculous throws — and he doesn’t have that gunslinger gene either.
But I'd also like to mention that another prominent QB with a big weakness to interior pass rush is Drew Brees. He's not all that great at making off-schedule plays either. However, the Saints have continually focused on building a strong O-line and have been able to cover up his weaknesses so well that defenses can rarely exploit him. I think if the Vikings were able to emulate the Saints' ability to build around Brees, they'd be winning more games and having less "Cousins chokes" complainers.
Oh, and don't complain to me about Cousins' price tag, Brees has bigger cap hits in both 2020 and 2021, and they're paying their backup QB $21M over 2020-21, so they are allocating much more $$$ to the QB spot than the Vikings are.
The Saints built a good OL. I think Brees had the lowest pressure rate in the NFL because of their quick passing game , but yes, Brees gets rattled when there is pressure in his face (up the middle).
f*ck the the people who complain about how much Cousins gets paid!!!!!!!
