After watching this season unfold I'm starting to believe you don't just pay qb's 30+ mil for market value maybe not 20+; okay i've felt that way for awhile, but this season is starting to be a case study. IMO 30+ should be playoff/SB winning qb's. 40+ mil I'm not even sure is worth a SB winning qb, but that is to be determined.
30+ mil a year qb's that have won sb's
Mahomes
Wilson
BigBen
Rogers
This group 36-23 playoff record, not one has a .500 or less reocrd and all have at least 1 SB. They earned those contracts, they are either HOF qb's or working toward that.
30+ mil a year qb's that have no SB, and also have a .500 or worse playoff record:
Watson
Goff
Cousins
Wentz (philly won a sb w/his backup)
Prescott
Ryan
This group has a combined 9 and 17 record. 9 wins 26 games, none are better then .500 only Goff is .500. That is not 30+ a mil worthy. IMO you pay qb's for playoff wins/sb wins.
Guys Making 20-29mil
Tannehill
Brisset*not even a starter*
Garropollo
Stafford
D Carr
Brees
Brady
Rivers
A Smith*just started last night*
T Bridgewater
Brady ruins averages for this group so I won't do it. Obviously his age has more to do w/his pay over his record. Tannehill, Jimmy G and Brees are the only ones that have a .500 or better record. There are a few that have never been to the playoffs; and Stafford and Bridge never won a playoff game.
If you are a GM/owner and just have accept that this is what you pay for, might not be worth having one of those franchise qb's, until you get one of the top franchise qb's. Paying for losing or never/rarely getting to the playoffs is a bad investment imo.
I understood why the Vikes traded for Cousins. Not sure I understood paying him what they did.
