I been stable on my argument! Since we went the Bradford route it made Cousins the best option. The 2017 draft was the draft to get a long term starter not 2018. Lamar barely got into round 1 because teams didn't believe in the long term success and didn't want to change there whole offense for a run first high injury risk QB. One team believed in him had a plan and pulled the trigger. Isn't the goal to get a decade long QB for once? You can say well he is making less for free agents. I am a believer in building through the draft mostly. I don't care how much cap we would have had overspending on a crap load of FAs is not the way to build either it is fools gold a lot of times. Here and there you hit on a high priced one but not a lot. My problem is giving another guarantee 3 year deal with no out. We could have given him a extension he solid, I would of had no problem with it. Dang though they could have put some fake money at the end of the deal giving us a chance to wiggle out if he got hurt or he wasn't playing well.I think Cousins is worth up to 30 based on the market but way up in the 40s is going way to far and it is guaranteed now that I don't like. Can you give me an example of how Cousins has made this team better, so much so that he was the "best option"?
Lamar is a super talented QB who is easy to build your offense around. He doesn't need an elite oline, WRs or run game to support him. If guys aren't open he will run for a first down. If his Oline struggles, he will avoid sacks with his legs and nimbleness. If his running game isn't going, he will pick up the slack himself.
Cousins is a limited QB who needs everything near perfect around him to compete for a SB. Perfect play calling, a great run game, great defense, great WRs and all day to throw the football.
You say Lamar needs to find the right offense to be successful, but the reality is Cousins is the guy who is tough to build an offense around.
