LOL, you're right about the username being too long. On the Bears board they've shortened it to just JABF :-)

You're so right about Trubisky too. I've been an NFL fan for over 55 years now and have come to the point that I hate it when I hear a college kid is a "can't miss" guy. Because they so often are busts. The sports writers and the talking heads on the sports shows seem to know it all pre-draft. Then when these "can't miss" guys are dropping like flies and busting in the NFL "real world" they are mighty quiet about their predictions.

Getting off topic here, but I'll throw it out anyway (it's the dreaded death valley days of the off season and not too much to talk about), have you ever noticed how many of the high priced free agents each year are guys who had been drafted in the mid to late rounds? I've started to notice that in recent years. The majority of them sure were not 1st round picks.

If a franchise is struggling to evaluate draft talent consistently well, it's a killer. The Bears traded away draft picks to move up from the 3rd pick of the draft to the 2nd pick of the draft - to pick Trubisky rather than Mahomes or Watson. Madness. Utter madness. Ryan Pace trades away draft picks too easily... and 2 of the past 3 years we've had only 5 picks in the draft and yet again this year we don't have a 1st round draft pick. Pretty sad to watch.

I was just whining for a moment because I had to spend those extra two seconds typing out your name to tag you. I'm hoping you got the Bobby Douglas reference, but many on these forums are too young to remember him. He was one of the best running backs in the NFL in the early seventies. Unfortunately, the Bears were trying to use him as a starting QB. The guy was one big, tough dude with a super strong arm. I've heard legends that he could stand on one goal line and throw the ball to the other one. Before Michael Vick, who held the NFL QB rushing yard record for 34 years? It was Douglas, who rushed for 968 yards in 1972 (IIRC, it was a time when the Vikings had never had a 1000 yard rusher). Career passing rating = 48.5. The quote about the barn was from his own head coach, Abe Gibron. Fun times to be a Viking fan and not a Bears fan.

We would need to replace Diggs, but in a draft like this we can do that with the 100th pick. Meanwhile we spend picks 19 and 25 (hypothetically) to bring in two studs on either side of the line.

This draft has a ridiculous depth of talent, it's ideal to add picks.

I don't think a 3rd rounder is going to come in and replace Diggs. Maybe in a few years if they hit on it, but out of the box, I doubt it. I do agree we need to get studs on both the OL and DL... not going to argue that... but between the 9M dead cap and drop in production, I don't see it.

We get 5M to sink into a non-WR, can take a good WR at 81, and we walk out with a stud at 19. It's just resource allocation and the very idea of allocating 30M to two WRs is just....blech.

Maybe not. And if not, then maybe you don't trade him.

But I could see someone like Gruden or maybe Buffalo or Baltimore swinging their first for him. If we can't land a first, then I walk away.

Maybe not. And if not, then maybe you don't trade him.

I think a 2nd and 4th is much more likely. But then again there have been idiot GMs through history of NFL. One even traded a 1st and 4th for street free agent Sammy Two Sleeves

Fixed. Only "studs" are acquired in the first round. That's why we need to trade our top playmaker to save $5.5M in cap space (and is already under a reasonable contract for four more years). It's because that will surely lead to us acquiring a "STUD <fill in your area of need>" in this year's draft. It always works that way for all NFL teams. What could backfire?? *skeptic*

CP is about to ball out. He destroyed SEC defenses with a QB that had an IQ of about 50. The only thing he needs to improve is his hands. Everything we lost with Percy are his strengths. The Vikings basically have their first 3 rounds covered in the first, I fail to see the problem.

you keep ignoring that diggs doesn't want to be here. No one is screaming to dump diggs just because we want draft picks. If the dude isn't happy and we can gain something fairly significant for him then why not? Is it because keeping unhappy diva wrs usually gets better? Oh wait no it usually turns into a sh1t show so why not get ahead of all that and move him before his value gets damaged with a situation like that. Initially on the field diggs would be missed but the cupboard isn't bare. Thielan is still a top 20 wr and Johnson who everyone dismisses had 30 catches and 3 tds as a rookie. Diggs had 50 catches as a rookie btw. Add to that its a deep draft for wrs and we still have rudy cook and an emerging smith in the passing game.
