Re-Loading vs. Re-Tooling vs. Rebuilding in 2020

Well, the Dolphins did, but ... we're not the Dolphins. The Browns have sucked FOR YEARS and have had dozens of high picks, but somehow still managed to suck. Having a lot of picks is nice, but if you don't hit on them, what's the point? Remember the RG3 trade? Did the Rams immediately improve? Build a competitive team for years to come? The Redskins? No and no. Plenty of teams have been doing just fine with having mid to late round picks for years now: Patriots, Ravens, Saints, Chiefs, Packers, Seahawks, ... Vikings, etc. And just so I'm clear, any "leadership" advocating for tanking is probably not the group you want in charge for the rebuild, so there is that. 

As a season ticket holder, and someone who drops a few grand a year on this team, of course I can't get on board with planning to suck, especially when I know there is a good chance it doesn't go as planned anyway. For all the times I've been accused of having a loser mentality, because I don't "demand a Super Bowl for my fandom", what the heck would this be? Purposely losing games? Purposely sucking? Purposely alienating the fanbase? For a few more picks? Nah, I'm good. We've seen plenty of examples of sucking simply leading to ... more sucking. So, we accumulate a bunch of picks, but what if they don't pan out? What if the new coaching staff and GM are duds like we see SO MUCH in the NFL? What then? All for nothing. No thanks. Let's just continue to try to win and let the chips fall where they may regarding the draft, free agency, and this team's leadership.  

I, unlike most here, actually believe in the guys we have in charge. Spielman and Zimmer have done a much better job drafting/developing players than what we saw in years 2008-2013. I think they can continue to learn and improve, so I'd much rather go that route than blow it all up on a "weeeeell, maybe."     

Why on Earth would rebuilding be an option?  2019 was a better season than 2018, and we have tons of talent, many of which is quite young and locked up contractually.  Have you watched the NFL before and seen teams in the situation to rebuild?  This is not the Vikings.  The fact that this option is here just destroys the credibility of the entire post completely.  Less is more ...

Hey, I’m glad you disagree with the rebuild. I just listed the options and presented it. Because that’s something NFL teams do.

I believe the bottom line is this....

Zimmer NEEDS to change his style of coaching, period. Hire talented coordinators and let them do their job.

With the exception of the OLINE, this offense is solid and can compete. We need to load up the oline and get some better production.

If anything, Cook has proven that he cannot handle the load in the backfield, he’s becoming injury prone. The duo back there is solid, but if you protect cousins, this offense can be electric. Play calling is vanilla and frankly, I put that on Zimmer. Let it go!!

With that said, Zimmer needs to worry about his defenses ability moving forward.... Again, his strength is supposed to be DB’s, yet we’ve had arguably the worst duo back there for the last 2 years in Wayne’s and X. No depth.

Putting bubblegum in holes is not stopping the the water leaks, fix it the right way and roll the dice.

While Zimmer's style of sitting on 4 point leads in the 2nd half of games isn't great for my blood pressure, I think the coaching has been fine for Zimmer's part.  To me our problems have been specifically personnel related. and more specific than that our offensive line and Spielman's refusal to put effort into the line for two consecutive seasons.  He'll build the line to where by the end of the year with a lot of duct time and luck, we are almost "good", and then instead of solidifying that with our 1st round picks and free agency, he immediately moves on to other areas as our line is set.  And lo and behold, our line falters, drags the offense down, drags the team down, and then the next year he focuses on it again.

As for our defense, same thing, it's personnel.  This season it's Xavier Rhodes who is steadily plummeting the past 2 years and Trae Waynes whose been our default starter for far too long.

And then of course quarterback.  Kirk's issue isn't coaching its execution. Ditto for Keenum who had a great system but he couldn't execute in the playoffs.  I'm not necessarily calling for Spielman to be fired (nor am i saying NOT to), but I blame 80% of our problems on the choices of who is on our roster and put in starting positions because of it.
