Adding onto what Danchat pointed out, Arif cut and restructured his way to get to $35.8 million in space. Cut: Rhodes, Stephan, Elflein, Griffen (though I thought his contract automatically voids?)
He restructures with Reiff -$5 mill, and extends both Linval and Kirk.
Sounds great until you factor in the real word and what will actually unfold. We can all go to over the cap and play manipulate the cap. So let's say we go from negative cap to 30 mill you still have 22 fa to sign and if you cut any vets that started you also have to find replacements that are equal to or better and also add depth. You also have to allow for the new players drafted and also have to lure players in that 31 other teams may be bidding on eith much more resources not only going after our top FA but guys we ate also targeting.
If people think we are in great shape past 2020 you may want to rethink your stance. Back loading contracts with little future in place isn't nor ever is a wise move. Others have already pointed out Spielman is trying to save his own a$$ now not worried about 3 years from now. That isn't good for fans.
Also someone asked about cutting throat and what fans would say that have season tickets. I had season tickets for years and if a team is underachieving you want change. We have sucked for years so change is indeed needed.
I wanted to add this as well if players aren't earning money or failing what good is saving a little cap if they are still starters sucking? What good is the savings?
first off we have 20 free agents and that includes the restricted guys. Take away those two we have 18 unrestricted guys. Looking at the list do you really think its going to be hard to replace treadwell, Abdullah, sherels, brothers, dozier and brett jones? How about David morgan who i don't think even played last season. That's 7 of the 18 unrestricted guys that can be replaced very easily. Sure we may lose guys like waynes and kearse but that's the nature of the business. They aren't great by any means and we shouldn't get into a bidding war to try and keep them. Let some other team overpay for them and we can collect a comp pick next offseason.
