I would give Spielman a random C for his drafts.
Consider that he was the draft guy before he was GM, and he missed some pretty big ones.
One should not expect him to hit on all of his selections, as no one does, but he wasted a lot of resources to move up or gain low percentage late round picks.
The problem with Spielman is if you look at his draft history without looking at our roster you would say he’s got an amazing track record. Pro bowlers, starters and great contributors from the 1st rounders through undrafted players.
Consider this: if all of the players were drafted in the 7th round, and they made the team, they would all be starters and contributors. That does not mean they would be great players. Being a starter on a mediocre team doesn't mean as much as being a starter on a perennial Super Bowl challenging team.
Spielman has drafted some Pro Bowl players, but has he done better than other GMs? Is his hit to miss ratio better? Has he been able to build that line and draft that great quarterback? Has his free agents made a huge difference? Have his coaching hires brought a consistent Super Bowl contender?
