Talking Points
Here is a list of key areas that need to be watched closely and quick in game adjustments that should be made.
Offensive line play
key players to watch closely C, LG, RG, LT
If any are getting beaten badly early, they should be pulled quickly.
C insert Dozier and or Jones and play whoever is the most effective
LG insert Collins
RG insert Samina
LT insert Williams and or Udoh whoever is the most effective
We are going to need above average play by all positions on the O-line to win. It will only help to get bigger, stronger and have the best play at all O-line positions.
The O-line must be evaluated series to series to make sure all O-line positions are playing above average throughout the game to have a chance to win. This means they are opening up holes for DC in the run game to win the time of possession battle. It also means that they are giving Kirk extra time and a clean pocket most of the time to allow us to move the chains and score points. We will probably need to score at least 24 points to win this game. We will need a clean game from the offensive unit with no turnovers & few 3 and outs.
Defense
They need to start Hill at CB, if they don't they will have to have a short hook and watch the starter closely, if he is starting to get beat early by WR Thomas, bench him & put Hill on him. I think he has the best chance to limit Thomas of all our current DB's. We should also have safety help on him all day. Make someone else beat you not him.
Rhodes needs to be watched closely & if he is getting beat badly at the start, he needs to be benched. Use combination of Waynes, Boyd, Kearse to find best option.
D-line play must be aggressive and not allow 4 or 5 yards per run on 1st down as we have seen most of the year.
Special Teams
Bailey is going to have to be perfect on FG's & extra points. He will need to kickoff into the end zone, no run backs
We need better production from our PR person. Hughes was not doing a good job before going on IR.
I think they are going to try Sherils again but if he is rusty or stumbles, they need to have someone else ready to replace him. I would put whoever is the fastest that can catch punts, We need speed that can gain yards in the open field returns.
Zimmer will have to coach aggressively, designing innovative blitz packages to put pressure on Breeze quickly and get the Saints offense off the field on 3rd downs.
Lastly offensive play calling must be aggressive, you will have to play to win from the start. Which means no predictable run on first and second down and everybody knows you are going to throw and 3rd down typical game plans you have tried during the season which resulted in too many 3 and outs. Throw on first down, run on second down, throw on third down. If you are past mid field and have a 4th and 1 yard always go for it, do not kick field goals. You are going to need touchdowns to beat them not field goals.
In conclusion, if they follow all of these strategies & recommendations, with a little luck we may be able to pull off a huge upset.
Feel free to opine but remember to keep it pithy!
