Sorry I misunderstood! I thought you meant he would ask for higher than $10.5 million AAV with an extension. Is he at the point in his career where he takes a pay cut like Brian Robison and other long time veterans did? It could be a dicey situation.

If yes, then Zimmer will find a role for him in the defense. If he has to move him around, he will. Newman played into his late 30s as a CB. I think Smith can play out another contract without too much dropoff.
The catch is this..... if Smith (as our best player) sees Spielgod give Kirk an extension and raise.... how could we possibly sell Smith on taking a pay cut? You tell me.... what exactly would you tell him to take a pay cut?
