If yes, then Zimmer will find a role for him in the defense. If he has to move him around, he will. Newman played into his late 30s as a CB. I think Smith can play out another contract without too much dropoff.

The catch is this..... if Smith (as our best player) sees Spielgod give Kirk an extension and raise.... how could we possibly sell Smith on taking a pay cut? You tell me.... what exactly would you tell him to take a pay cut?

Yes he could technically restructure but he is not giving up the guaranteed. No need to on his end. If they want to extend him, give him a bump in pay and push a little of the bump in pay off year? Ok.

You don’t have to wait....he has one year and you have Winston in the room waiting to sign a contract....Chicago will take one year of Cousins for a change swap of 5th and 7th picks. Done.

I think we should work something out after this season but it makes little sense for him to do it in my opinion.

Im sure TB would swap Cousins and Winston in a heart beat, Winston is a better TJack, but no where near as good as Cousins

No the experts know Rick gave a contract to Kirk and his family that his agent drew up knowing the leverage he would have with good numbers and mediocre wins. Why because it has made him a ton of money once and will be all he needs to so it again after 2020

Rick has ZERO power to do anything and Kirk has ZERO reason to get pushed into it.

I think we should work something out after this season but it makes little sense for him to do it in my opinion.

It all depends upon what is going on inside his head, and none of us know that. We are fairly certain that he is a committed family man who likely values his wife and son more than football and money. We are also pretty sure that he wants to be on a disciplined team with a strong locker room. He has already been paid a lot of money and may only want a "fair" deal at this point. If he likes where he is at and wants to lock onto some stability, then he may be ready and willing to sign a long term extension. If he is like many other pro athletes who spend their lives worrying about who is making a dollar more than they are and pretend that it is about respect, and not finances, then he likely will just play his final year and hold out for the highest bidder. I hold out hope that it is the former, but expect that several of our experts will now immediately tell me how wrong I am about that. We'll see! BosViking may need to set aside a bit of that "fire Rick" crow for NoresemanSam to digest in 2020. *violin*

winston i believe will be a free agent. Id trade cousins in a heart beat if i can have same talent level at half the price and more team friendly.
