but there aren't a lot of franchise QB's to be had when you're drafting in the 20's, and we have too many other holes to fill to trade a bunch of picks and move up.
.
Top 4 NFC teams this season:
Aaron Rodgers
Drew Brees
Russell Wilson
Jimmy G
All available to be drafted in the 20s.
The key is having a GM with a clue on how to identify and pick his franchise QB
Don't buy into the hype Josey... there most definitely are ways to find your franchise QB..... hope is not all lost in that arena.......
I didn't realize until that post how the Vikings would have been better off with my draft boards than theirs.
It is well known I wanted the Vikings to draft Aaron Rodgers with their second first round pick in 2005. I didn't happen, and the rest is history.
I liked Brees in the draft in 2001, and I thought he slipped big time, but the Vikings had a young Culpepper. When Brees was available after 2005, I wanted the Vikings to go after him hard. The Vikings didn't go all in for Brees, and that was a big fail.
In the 2014 draft, my short list of quarterbacks were Carr, Bridgewater, and Garoppolo in that order. The Vikings moved up to select Bridgewater, which I thought was not a bad move, but I liked Carr better. The Vikings had moved up only eight picks to select Bridgewater, and with all three on the board, one would have fallen to the Vikings.
Yes, the Vikings also moved up to get that extra year on the rookie contract, but as players go, they didn't have to give up a 4th round pick if they liked even two of the three quarterbacks on my list. Carr was selected by the Raiders, but we don't know if that would have been Carr or Bridgewater had the Vikings not moved up. We now know that two of the three quarterbacks would have been available at the Vikings original second round slot at 40.
Bortles and Manziel had already been selected, and I didn't like either of them that high. As I said then, Bortles looked too much like Ponder to me in games, and I didn't want Manziel anywhere near the Vikings. Thanks to the Browns, we dodged that bullet.
I did not see Russel Wilson doing so well, but not many others did either. He was available, though, for teams that saw in him what they needed.
