Boston is going to be better in coverage than the guy who led the NFL in interceptions? I really don't know much about him, but I won't be happy if we lose Harris.
That said, the only reason we will lose Harris is if we refuse to pay market rate for him. He can't hold us hostage to a bidding war, because we can first tag him and give him three choices. Sit out. Play at the tag. Sign a reasonable extension providing him with significantly more guaranteed money than the tag. Safeties who have never been paid high dollar contracts aren't in a very strong negotiating position. As long as we don't low ball him (we don't and won't), he will be ours. Harris is the only "no brainer" move we have this off season. Secure him and then work the cap issues with the other significant variables (Griff, Joseph and Rhodes being primary opportunities, followed by routine restructures for some of our other young highly paid guys). If you believe (like I do), that a Kirk extension is all but a done deal, a lot of this becomes easier. With Harris and Kirk locked up, we won't need to become distracted from building the trenches and CB in the early rounds of the draft.
