Good advice!  That's why I let you post stuff about freeing 64M dollars and all the trade partners we'd have.  I didn't assume anything, you demonstrated no clue.  And did so loudly and confidently.

Piece of return advice: if you don't know the context (or anything really) about what you speak...maybe ask questions rather than declaring so fervently.  You made an ass of yourself on the Cousins trade, but it's how you approach everything: loud and empty.

You didn't understand the list because you don't know what dead money is.  You used my numbers, but didn't understand them.  Just to help you out, I wasn't posting how we'd clear cap space, I was pointing out how much larger the dead cap penalties are this year versus next year.

That's Minnesota fans for you - when the team isn't playing up to snuff, the fans will turn on the highest paid player / leader of the team, that being Kirk Cousins, even if it isn't fully deserved. Apparently we need to get a new QB, because, y'know, if we run out a shiny new QB with the same O-line they'll be so much better than Cousins!

Just off the top of my head, I'd say that Spielman has adapted more than Zimmer, but has also had longer to do so.  And until those adaptations (like purchasing QB and LT talent instead of drafting/developing, for example) turn into greater successes, it's more like avoiding a permanent weakness than truly growing as a GM.  It's certainly better than seeing him beat his head against the wall by refusing to change, I'll grant you that.

The problem with trying to separate RS and Zim in terms of their chances to bring about future success is that it's hard to see how Spielman can bring in a top candidate to replace Zimmer unless Spielman is essentially assured of at least three more years as GM after 2020.

And the 2023 season would be Spielman's 18th on the job.  (Safely) assuming the Super Bowl continues to elude him, RS will have run the Vikings for nearly two decades without a Super Bowl appearance.  By then the 'in the 21st century' qualifier will have dropped away, and Spielman will go down as having the longest non-Super Bowl tenure of any GM (excluding owner/GM's like Cincy's Brown) since the NFL/AFL merger.
