Up to this point I've just left the Zimmer side of the equation alone, because when you know that it's essential to replace your GM in order to succeed, a change of HC is a foregone conclusion.
But you're absolutely correct... the same crushing weight of historical futility that's now flattening Spielman is also standing on top of Zimmer.
Put another way, it is empirically and profoundly unrealistic to expect the Vikings to reach the Super Bowl in 2020, or any other year that either RS or Zimmer remain on the job.

FTR, I was a big time Zimmer supporter when he was initially hired. I was wrong.
Long ship you're right... Zimmer deserves just as much criticism. Not more, mind you. But just as much as Rick. His conservative nature and lack of killer instinct is obvious. It had hurt our chances of winning.
